Methodist Hospital Hill Country, formerly Hill Country Memorial, was founded in 1971 as a small, rural hospital in Fredericksburg, Texas, with only 20 beds. Over the last fifty years, our hospital has grown into a comprehensive healthcare center, serving the Texas Hill Country area with a range of medical services, including emergency care, cardiology, gastroenterology and orthopedics.

A routine appointment became a lifesaving moment for Lester Meier, a Hill Country cattle rancher and longtime rodeo producer.

Before a pain management procedure, standard pre-procedure monitoring revealed an unexpected heart rhythm concern. That finding led to additional testing, a diagnosis and care from Dr. Joseph Wu, a board-certified cardiac electrophysiologist with Methodist Hospital | Hill Country, who implanted a leadless pacemaker to help protect Lester’s heart.

Today, Lester is back to working cattle alongside his wife and feeling better.

Patients, Visitors and staff at Methodist Hospital | Hill Country had a wild surprise when the San Antonio Zoo Animal Ambassador Team stopped by for a special visit.

Gomez, a 14-foot Burmese python, to Cortez, an African pygmy hedgehog, patients, visitors and colleagues had the chance to learn about unique animals up close while sharing smiles, conversation and a meaningful break from the hospital routine.

When Courtney Perry moved to Fort Worth, she still chose to return to Methodist Hospital | Hill Country in Fredericksburg for the birth of her third child. Her care team at the Cailloux Birthing Center helped provide the supportive, personalized experience she trusted for all three of her deliveries.

That commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care is also reflected in the hospital’s recent Level II Maternal Care designation and the Cailloux Birthing Center’s 2025 Women’s Choice Award recognition as being among the top 3% of hospitals in obstetrics.
