What an amazing first three weeks it has been! Our campers have been busy exploring sensory bins, creating incredible artwork, building communication skills, trying new foods, moving their bodies, and making meaningful friendships along the way.

Last week was Pasta Week, and we had so much fun exploring, creating, and learning through food! Our Flavor Finders:

✨ Played games with dried pasta
✨ Got their hands messy exploring cooked pasta
✨ Painted with pasta sauce
✨ Created fun pasta jewelry

Through playful food experiences, our participants build confidence, curiosity, and positive interactions with new foods in a supportive environment. We loved seeing everyone engage, explore, and have fun with pasta in so many different ways!

🍽️ Feeding Therapy: Try This, Not That!

When it comes to helping children explore new foods, the words we use matter. Small changes in language can make a big difference in reducing pressure, building trust, and creating positive experiences around food.

Instead of focusing on getting a child to eat, try focusing on curiosity, exploration, and connection. 🌱

✨ "I wonder if we can touch it or smell it?"
✨ "What does it feel, smell, or look like?"
✨ "That was brave trying something new."

These simple shifts help children feel safe while developing confidence with food at their own pace.

Remember: Progress isn't measured by bites alone. Looking, touching, smelling, licking, and tasting are all valuable steps in the feeding journey.

During this stage, your little one may start:
✨ Drinking from an open cup with assistance
✨ Picking up food with their fingers to self-feed
✨ Taking bites from larger pieces of food
✨ Chewing with more coordinated movements
✨ Closing their lips during swallowing
✨ Exploring dissolvable, soft, and meltable solids
✨ Holding a spoon

Week 6 (June 29–July 2) – Art Theme (shorter week discount available!)
Week 7 (July 6–July 10) – Roblox Theme
Week 8 (July 13–July 17) – Minecraft Theme

Every child develops at their own pace, but between 6–9 months you may start to notice some exciting feeding milestones!

Your child might start to:
• Hold their head up when sitting upright
• Bite food voluntarily
• Hold their own bottle
• Munch on food
• Bring food to their mouth with their hands
• Try to hold the spoon
• Reach for the spoon when being fed
• Drink from a cup while biting the edge or straw

If you have concerns about your child's feeding skills, a feeding evaluation can help identify areas where support may be beneficial.

Your child might start to:
• Reach for a spoon while being fed
• Open their mouth when presented with a spoon
• Close their mouth firmly or turn their head away when full
• Hold their head up when seated
• Accept infant cereal, purees, and meltable solids
• Mouth and gum soft solid foods
• Move food to the back of their tongue to swallow
• Begin getting their first teeth 🦷
