Demas was once serving alongside Paul. He was counted among his fellow workers.

And then we read these heartbreaking words:

“For Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me…”
— 2 Timothy 4:10

That should make every one of us examine our hearts.

We can be praying, serving and faithfully following the Lord—and still need to guard against the slow pull of this world.

What are we feeding?
What are we allowing?
What has our attention?
What are we unwilling to surrender?

This isn’t about condemnation. It’s an invitation to examine our hearts.

If something has begun competing with your love for the Lord, turn back. Lay it down. Surrender it again.

Don’t let the desires of the flesh become louder than the voice of the One who called you.

Guard your heart. 🤍

Something is happening with Sometimes Things Change that means more to me than book sales ever could.

I now know of three counselors who are not only using this book, but recommending it to other counselors and professionals in their field.

That means so much to me.

When I wrote Sometimes Things Change, my hope was to give children walking through difficult family changes something gentle and reassuring—something that reminds them they are deeply loved, that the changes happening around them are not their fault, and that God is still with them.

But seeing it become a resource used by counselors is something especially meaningful.

It means the book is helping begin conversations.

It’s giving children words for feelings they may not know how to express.

And it’s giving the adults walking beside them another tool to help them feel safe, heard, and reassured.

I’m so grateful for the counselors who have trusted this little book enough to use it in their own work—and then recommend it to others.

That is exactly the kind of impact I prayed this book could have.

I never wanted Sometimes Things Change to simply be another book on a shelf. I prayed it would find its way into the hands of children who need its message most.

Seeing that begin to happen is incredibly special. 🤍

We make plans. We imagine how things will unfold. And when they don’t, disappointment can make us believe God has said no.

But sometimes the answer isn’t no.

It’s not yet.

God sees what we can’t see. He knows what needs to happen first, what needs to change, what needs to grow—and exactly when the time will be right.

Don’t let a delay convince you that you’ve been overlooked.

Keep trusting.
Keep praying.
Keep walking in obedience.

God is still writing the story. 🤍

“For the vision is yet for the appointed time…” — Habakkuk 2:3

Some things simply aren’t worth what they’re costing your walk with God. 🤍

“Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”
Galatians 5:16

What if that one thing you’ve desperately yearned for—the thing that has lingered in your heart for years—is still there for a reason?

You tried before.

You prayed over it.
You pursued it.
You thought the time had come.

And then… nothing.

So maybe you decided you’d missed God altogether.

But what if you didn’t?

What if the desire was from Him, but the timing was yours?

What if the plan wasn’t wrong—you simply moved ahead without Him?

Maybe what felt like failure wasn’t God closing the door forever. Maybe He was saying, “Not yet.”

What if, all this time, He has been moving pieces you couldn’t see? Preparing circumstances. Preparing people. Preparing the very thing He placed in your heart so long ago.

And perhaps most importantly—preparing you.

Maybe this time He isn’t asking you to figure out how to make it happen.

Maybe He’s asking for your complete obedience.

To seek Him.
To trust Him.
To wait when He says wait.
And to move when He says move.

You’re not crazy for still carrying it.

Maybe you didn’t miss God at all.

Maybe you just missed His timing.

So if He asks you to wait a little longer…

Will you trust Him?

For still the vision awaits its appointed time;
it hastens to the end—it will not lie.
If it seems slow, wait for it;
it will surely come; it will not delay.
— Habakkuk 2:3 (ESV)

If you’ve been here for a while, you’ve probably watched some things change. And if you’re new here, I think it’s time I properly introduce myself.

This page began in March 2016. But the woman writing here today isn’t the same woman who started it.

I’m a still wife, a mom, and now a Grammy, and an author—and most importantly, a woman who loves Jesus and wants my life and my words to point people toward Him.

But there’s a lot between 2016 and here.

There have been beautiful years, but there have also been years marked by grief, loss, depression, questions, family struggles and some very painful places I didn’t always know how to talk about.

For a long time, I was much better at smiling than I was at letting people see what was happening underneath it.

And somewhere along the way, even the way I write began to change.

I hope you can see it.

Less driven by emotion.
More grounded in Scripture.
Less about having the right words.
More about pointing to the One who does.

That change didn’t happen because life became easier. In many ways, it came through the hardest parts of my story.

The Lord has been healing things in me that I carried for a very long time.

I’m beginning to understand that some of the places I once wanted desperately to hide may be the very places He can use to encourage someone else.

So maybe this is a reintroduction—but it’s also the beginning of sharing a little more of the story behind the woman you see here today.

There’s more to tell. Some of it is hard. Some of it is beautiful. Much of it is both.

But through every chapter, Jesus has been faithful.

And I’m incredibly grateful that I get to share some of it with you. 🤍

I love the contrast between Zechariah and Mary in Luke 1.

Zechariah questioned whether he could believe what God had said.

Mary believed, but she couldn’t understand how it could possibly happen.

One struggled with belief.
One struggled with understanding.

And God met them both.

Zechariah’s unbelief had a consequence, but it didn’t disqualify him. God’s promise still came to pass.

That matters for those of us who have had moments when our faith wasn’t as strong as we wanted it to be.

God isn’t looking for people who never struggle, never question, or never get it wrong.

He uses imperfect people with imperfect faith.

And sometimes faith simply sounds like Mary:

“Let it be to me according to your word.”
— Luke 1:38

I may not understand how, Lord.
But I trust You. 🤍

Lord, change me.

It’s easy to ask God to change the circumstances.
To change the situation.
To change the person.
To change what we think is wrong.

But what if the change He’s after is in us?

A bigger faith.
A deeper trust.
A heart willing to yield to His call.
Hands willing to release what we’ve been trying to control.
A life that says, “Your will, Lord—not mine.”

Maybe the prayer isn’t always,
“Lord, change this.”

Maybe sometimes it’s simply,

“Lord, change me.”

Change the way I see.
Change the way I respond.
Change what needs changing in my heart.

And if You choose to change the circumstances too, I’ll praise You.

But even if You don’t—

don’t let me walk away from this season unchanged. 🤍

A little update for my reader friends.

All four of my books now have a home on Goodreads!

I’ve been working on my author page, updating each book, and I just opened the Ask the Author feature too.

If you’re on Goodreads, I’d love for you to stop by, follow my author page, add one of my books to your shelf, or ask me a question.

I’m so grateful for every way these little stories continue to find their way into new hands and hearts. 🤍
