It was an honor to be a part of celebrating veterans from our NOVA Retirement Unlimited Incorporated communities during our recent Dream Flights experience at Leesburg Executive Airport, Town of Leesburg. The Wellington was proudly represented by our very own resident Mr. Robert “Bob” L. who served as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force for 4 years.

Bob and seven fellow veterans took to the skies for individual flights aboard a restored, open-air WWII-era biplane, soaring over the Northern Virginia landscape for 15 unforgettable minutes.

During Bob's military service, he worked as a flight avionics officer aboard the Looking Glass aircraft. In this role, he was responsible for supporting the aircraft's advanced avionics systems and ensuring they operated effectively. His work contributed to the mission readiness and success of the aircraft during his time in the Air Force. It was a pleasure to have Bob participate in Dream Flights and to recognize his dedicated service and lasting contributions to our country.

Our Cooking Club was serving up smiles this week in our Inspiritás Memory Care neighborhood! 🍕 Residents had a wonderful time creating their own delicious pizzas, sharing laughs, and enjoying their homemade treats together. From choosing toppings to savoring every bite, it was a fun-filled afternoon that brought creativity, conversation, and community to the table.

We had a great time keeping the patriotic vibes going with our seated beach volleyball competition as part of our RUI FIT program! We are looking forward to hosting a friendly game with residents from our sister community Ashleigh at Lansdowne later this month!

We had a star-spangled celebration to ring in 250 years of Freedom in the USA! 🇺🇸 Residents and team members enjoyed a patriotic co****le competition, live music, and a delicious BBQ lunch. With festive red, white, and blue apparel, great company, and plenty of fun, it was the perfect way to celebrate the 4th of July together!

Our Ladies' Tea Party was a wonderful blend of British Royal Tea elegance and festive Fourth of July spirit. From the beautiful patriotic décor to the warm fellowship, it was a memorable afternoon enjoyed by all.

A special thank you to Annamarie from Steeped in Traditions for putting on such a fantastic program and the talented Taste of RUI Chefs for preparing a delicious menu that made the celebration even more special. We are grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make this event such a delightful success.

This month's Uncorked Wine Tasting was a tremendous success, bringing smiles to our Independent Living and Assisted Living residents. Our Inspiritás-Memory Care residents also joined the celebration with a delightful zero-proof wine tasting, complete with a cheerful toast to the occasion! 🥂🍇A huge shoutout to our volunteers who are passionate about connecting with our residents and helping create meaningful moments together.

We had a fantastic day celebrating both Fathers Day and The Longest Day this weekend! The day started with a yummy BBQ lunch prepared by our Taste of RUI chefs and fantastic music by Empty Ecstasy! Then we were wowed by a dazzling drive-thru car and bike show, and finished the day with our Longest Day fundraiser at Chipotle supporting Alzheimer's Association. The day was filled with good food and fun times all for a cause so near and dear to our hearts. 💙💜🏁🎶

In honor of Women Veteran’s Day on June 12, we were proud to partner with Educational Enrichment for Young Patriots (EEYP) and Stars and Stripes NOVA to bring engaging and meaningful programming to our residents.

EEYP shared the inspiring story of the Angels of Bataan through World War II artifacts, historical photos, and decommissioned fi****ms, bringing the experiences of female military heroes to life. Stars and Stripes NOVA hosted a discussion for veterans, military spouses, and community members about resources and programs available to veterans in Northern Virginia.

It was an educational and inspiring day that reminded us of the courage, sacrifice, and service of our nation’s veterans.
