Twenty years of anti-vaccine activism met one question on CNN yesterday.

Dana Bash asked the Health Secretary whether he accepts some responsibility for a measles resurgence that has already blown past last year's record — 2,371 cases, roughly 93% in unvaccinated patients, with the U.S. now at risk of losing the elimination status it has held since 2000.

His answer, in full: "Absolutely not. First of all, this is an international outbreak. So, we're doing better at handling it than any country in the world."

Ah yes. The problem is other countries. And Mexico's per-capita numbers. And pandemic lockdowns. And Fauci's diaries. And religious communities.

The Secretary worked through every suspect except the one who wrote in 2021 that parents had been "misled into believing" measles is deadly and the vaccine necessary — in a book literally titled The Measles Book.

To be fair — and we're nothing if not fair — he did finally tell families to vaccinate their children against measles.

We agree, Mr. Secretary. Welcome.

It only took a record outbreak, a 35-year high, and a second consecutive record year to get you here.

But notice what he still couldn't say. Bash pressed him, on national television, to accept even "some" responsibility for the hesitancy he spent two decades manufacturing.

He called it "press malpractice" and accused her of attacking him.

The MMR vaccine is about 97% effective.
It didn't change.
The case count did.

And the man in charge of both still says: not my fault.
