“This world wasn’t built for neurodivergent kids.”

And for so many parents, that truth comes with a quiet kind of grief.

Not grief for who your child is.

Grief for the moments they were misunderstood.
Grief for the times their nervous system was labeled as “too much.”
Grief for how often you had to explain what should have been met with compassion.

In this week’s UnMuted Love episode, Ce and Shelby Czarnick talk about chronic misattunement, the nervous system, and what happens when a child finally feels safe enough to be fully themselves.

Because safety changes everything.

I had several parents ask me again today about social media and their kids.

I want to be honest: earlier in my career, before I was a parent myself, I relied on the limited information I had available. My goal was always to help families identify their values and feel empowered to create boundaries that fit their home.

As both a parent and a provider, I continue learning and growing. Lately, I have been taking a deeper look at how social media affects kids and teens—especially for children with differently wired, neurodivergent brains who may struggle more when typical limits or “social contracts” are not enough.

One of the most helpful resources I have found is an article from Happily Family, written by one of the creators behind social media notifications. It offers important insight into how these platforms impact teenage mental health.

If this is something your family is navigating, you are not alone. These conversations are hard, and there is no one-size-fits-all answer. But there are ways to create more connection, more understanding, and more support.

I’ll be continuing to dig deeper into this topic and sharing what I learn along the way. 💙
