One of the biggest barriers to disclosure is a child’s fear of hurting someone they love. Many children carry the weight of protecting the adults around them, even when they are the ones who need protection.

As parents and caregivers, we can help create a safe space by reminding our children:
💙 They are never responsible for managing our emotions.
💙 Our love for them is unconditional.
💙 It is our job to keep them safe.
💙 We are strong enough to handle anything they need to tell us.

When children know they won’t be blamed, judged, or responsible for someone else’s feelings, they are more likely to speak up when something is wrong.

Copying and pasting from a coworker at the Regional Child Advocacy Center.

This is exactly why mandatory reporter training is so important.

Mandatory reporters are not supposed to investigate allegations of abuse themselves. Their job is to report the concern and let the appropriate agencies handle the investigation.

A child’s denial does not always mean abuse didn’t occur. When adults decide not to report because they believe they’ve “looked into it” and determined nothing happened, they can unintentionally leave a child unprotected.

It’s always better to report and be wrong than to stay silent and be wrong.

A jury has returned a verdict for a Faith Academy counselor accused of failing to report the suspected sexual abuse of a student. >>> https://www.fox10tv.com/2026/06/05/faith-academy-counselor-found-guilty-failing-report-suspected-sexual-abuse-student/
