August is National Wellness Month—a reminder that wellness looks different in every season of life.

In hospice, wellness can look like:

✅ Relief from pain and other symptoms

✅ Restful, peaceful moments at home

✅ Meaningful time with loved ones

✅ Emotional and spiritual support

✅ Feeling heard, respected and cared for

✅ Support for family caregivers

It isn’t about doing more. It’s about protecting what matters most.

Hospice care is never the work of just one person.

Nurses, physicians, CNAs, social workers, spiritual counselors, volunteers and bereavement professionals work together to support each patient and family physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Every role matters. Every voice helps shape the plan of care.

“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes… including you.”
— Anne Lamott

A gentle Sunday reminder for caregivers:

Rest is not something you earn. It is something you need.

Take a breath. Step outside. Be gentle with yourself today.

🌟 Meet the Team | Jack Weaver

Jack Weaver has served as the Chaplain for our Gillette team for the past four years, walking alongside patients and families with compassion, encouragement, and a listening ear.

When asked what he enjoys most about hospice, his answer is simple: the people. Building meaningful connections and offering support during life's most important moments is what makes his work so rewarding.

Outside of hospice, Jack jokes that his hidden talent is somehow always picking the slowest checkout line—no matter which one he chooses.

One quote that continues to inspire him comes from Mark Twain:

"Compassion is a language the deaf can hear and the blind can see."

We're grateful for the kindness, wisdom, and compassionate presence Jack brings to our patients, families, and team every day; thank you, Jack! 🩵

Independence may change over time — but it does not disappear.

One of the biggest misconceptions about hospice is that it takes independence away. In reality, early hospice often helps patients maintain comfort, dignity, and autonomy longer through symptom management and supportive care.

Sometimes independence looks like:

💠 Staying at home

💠 Having pain managed

💠 Conserving energy for meaningful moments

💠 Making personal choices about care

Read more about why early hospice can preserve independence in our July blog — link in bio.

One of the hardest parts of serious illness is not knowing what comes next. Many families feel like they are constantly reacting — the next appointment, medication change, or difficult moment. Hospice can help bring support to uncertainty.

Instead of navigating it alone, families have a team to call, questions answered, and guidance along the way.

Sometimes peace begins with not carrying everything by yourself.

A gentle reminder for caregivers this summer:

You cannot pour from an empty cup.

If you are caring for a loved one, try to remember:

💮 Step outside for fresh air

💮 Accept help when it is offered

💮 Take breaks without guilt

💮 Stay hydrated and nourished

💮 Ask questions when things feel overwhelming

Caring for yourself is part of caring for someone else.

Save this as a reminder or tag a caregiver who may need it today.

🌟 Meet Nina Zavala, one of the compassionate CNAs/HHAs serving patients and families in our Gillette community.

With 14 years of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant—including the last two in hospice—Nina brings a calm, comforting presence to every visit. Her favorite part of hospice is providing compassionate care and support not only to patients, but to the families walking alongside them.

"I also enjoy hearing stories about our patients. Those stories bring smiles all around."

When she's not caring for others, Nina enjoys staying active by working out, hiking, and biking.

Thank you, Nina, for the kindness, compassion, and steady support you bring to our patients, families, and team every day. 💚

🌟 Meet Julie Clark!

Julie is one of our dedicated CNAs/HHAs serving patients and families in Gillette. With 10 years of hospice experience, her favorite part of the job is the people she meets and the relationships she builds along the way.

When she's not caring for others, Julie enjoys spending time with her family, camping, and just about anything outdoors.

She lives by the quote: "Sometimes the bad things that happen in life put us directly on the path to the best thing that could ever happen to us."

We're grateful to have Julie's compassion, positivity, and heart on the Stillwater Hospice team. 🧡
