Ok...Here's the thing...I like all the teams that are out there, but in my quest to be me, I wanted something different so here we are a tribe.
Today Jeremy and I met with my Oncologist Dr. Cary Peterson in Lincoln. We got tons of info thrown at us, but all very encouraging. The big things are, my cancer is hormone positive which is good, we can do some treating with hormone suppressers. We did catch this early and the first course of action will be to have surgery of some sort. Of course my options are lumpectomy and treat only the cancer that is present and run the slight risk of cancer returning at some point in my future. The option of mastectomy/reconstruction would remove the entire breast therefore eradicating the possibility of cancer coming back at least on that side.
We also drew blood today to be tested for genetic markers. If I am positive for those it will change the course of my treatment slightly. Some of that I did not understand, but was given some good literature to read through. Also if positive, he mentioned considering a double mastectomy because I would be at a much higher risk for cancer reoccurrence.
Tuesday I will meet with my new surgeon, Dr. Rachael Jendro. She is new to Nebraska but not new to Breast Cancer/Breast surgery. She came very highly recommended by Dr. Peterson.
Things are moving in the right direction. God is providing the right hands and doctors and the fight will end in victory.
