A few weeks ago I attended my 200th birth. Wow!!! This last decade of doula work has been by far the most humbling & incredibile journey (aside from motherhood). Each and every family I have served has the deepest space in my heart which I am eternally grateful for. I am forever a student as a doula...however there is wisdom within this work. I could have shared 20+ more slides....but for now I will pause and save those for another post. 🥹💙

My first fourpeat client welcomed their sweet son this morning. 🥹💙

This family is so incredibly special to me for so many reasons. We've shared four birth journeys together, along with walking through a few heartbreaking losses.

She has a history of VERY fast labors...for example, her last labor was only about 30ish minutes long. She called me around 6:40 this morning to say she'd had two contractions about 40 minutes apart and was leaking fluid. (To be honest, if any other client had told me this, I would have suggested they go back to sleep, and done the same)

I trusted her instincts, got up & started getting ready to leave. I arrived a little over an hour later, and her labor was still incredibly mild. She was exhausted from a poor night's sleep, so we encouraged her to rest. I slipped out to their backyard to pick fresh raspberries for her postpartum oatmeal & as I headed back inside, her husband came to get me because she began vocalizing. I quickly joined her, and after about 20 incredibly intense minutes later, their sweet baby was born.

After more than 200 births, I am constantly humbled by just how powerful women are along with each experience being soooo unique.

She also put together the sweetest little kit for me to bake a birthday cake so her kids could decorate it later once they got home. Their new little brother is already so very loved. 💙

Today my oldest turned 11 🥹
Eleven years of being a mother...
Eleven years has passed since I gave birth for the very first time...

Each birthday & birthing day I celebrate, brings profound reflection along with a tender heart. When I looked into my daughter's eyes for the first time after carrying her for 10 months, I became entranced with her little soul. This moment was so sublime, it lives within me to this day and for eternity. I still often find myself dimming her birth journey, to be more "palatable" for our trauma ridden birth culture. I never want to come across as if I am "bragging" or "embelishing" how marvelous it was. 34 hours of intense bliss into the cosmos, free from fear, deep in trance, surrounded by loving support within the safety of my home.

The experience of my daughter’s birth was ineffable..it changed something in me so deeply that language feels too small to hold it....

Her journey is the backbone, the foundation and the framework in which I bring into doula work. Although I cant duplicate her experience into others, I most certainly use what her birth (and my subsequent 2 births) taught me to be a living sanctuary for my clients while guiding them to step deeper into trust, surrender, mental coping, and excitement for their own journeys. 🥰💓

I am soooo excited to finally be offering TENS rental for my clients. If this program takes off, I plan to add more units. A few of my clients recently have rented or used their own & found them to be extremely helpful. I chose the OBI TENS for ease of use and the boost button for surges. 🤗

For those unfamiliar, A TENS unit is a small, wearable device that sends gentle electrical pulses to your lower back during labor. These pulses help interrupt pain signals and encourage your body to release endorphins, your natural pain relief. It’s non-invasive, drug-free, and gives you control over intensity right when you need it most. A TENS does not take intensity away, however many women report it can help make an unmedicated labor that much more manageable 💙

My son turns 8 today and every morning on his birthday, he asks to watch his birth film. It is one of my most cherished "posessions" and brings tears to my eyes being able to re-live his journey. I recall so vividly how powerful and simultaneously peaceful his birth was. 💙
