Mental health of the first responder is our primary focus. Nothing soothes the soul quite like a furry hug from a canine friend. Holley was my first truly trained and certified therapy dog. My intention was to be able to take her to children’s hospitals and retirement communities in hopes to brighten someone’s day. Holley did that, but she never seemed excited to do “the job.” I was working as a

Firefighter and my wife would bring her to the station to visit me. That’s when I noticed that her ears would perk up and her eyes would sparkle when she played with the duty crew. I started taking her to other stations. Before we would work, I would ask her if she was “ready to play with the heroes.” Her mood would change, and we were off to the races! This is when “Holley’s Heroes” started to grow. I retired from a medium sized urban fire department as a Captain. I was hoping to take Holley’s love for the Firefighters and use that to help US. Tragically, Holley developed a liver cancer and in a matter of weeks it ravished her. She passed away clutching my hand as she had done since the day we met. I couldn’t think of a better way to honor her than by continuing to help first responders through canine therapy. Helping Holley’s Heroes is a 501(c)(3) organization that specializes in providing a stress relief option during disasters and crisis. Whether it be large scale operation such as a natural disaster, or a small event such as a single vehicle MVA. HHH will bring a specially trained stress relief dog to where they may need it. We then can provide a goofy friend that just wants to play and love on the responders to help decompress.
