✨This month's Staff Spotlight: Caleb W.M., Clinical Therapist at Walker. Thank you for all your dedication, compassion and enthusiasm to Our Hope and to every client that walks through our doors. We are so blessed to have Caleb on our team! ✨
Why do you enjoy working with women or in the recovery community?
Many individuals in my family have struggled with addiction, myself included. My family has also struggled with mental illness. These are the reasons why I went into social work to begin with. I also, for philosophical reasons, find it difficult to rationalize working a job wherein I am not helping people. That's not to say that I would ever knock a job - a job is a job. But, for myself, if I am working it needs to be in the service of helping others.
What do you bring to Our Hope?
I had never worked residential prior to working at Our Hope, but I had worked for several years in addiction treatment as well as many years in mental health. I had originally gotten into social work intending to focus on addiction treatment, but life threw me some curve balls, and I found myself in OP MH. I enjoyed my time doing that, but working with OHA served as a way to return to what I intended to do while offering me invaluable experience in a new facet of the field (that being residential services).
What is one fun fact about you?
Fun is in the eye of the Beholder - and speaking of the devil, I am a long time Game Master for a group of friends that plays Dungeons and Dragons and other roleplaying games. At this time, we are currently on a hiatus, however, owing to scheduling concerns.
Anything else you’d like to add?
People who say anything to the effect of "I don't like animals" can't be trusted. How can you (generalized you) in all seriousness look at a kitten in its face and think to yourself, "I don't like this creature." - that's only mostly tongue-in-cheek. As you may have guessed, I have several pets.
