This is my postpartum motto in a nutshell. Please, don't apologize for your needs and let them be heard proudly and loudly!

Ever feel like you’re constantly trying to fold yourself up small just to fit the room? 🐉💨✨

Chest feeding is a simple thing on the outside, but so much can be happening that's managed in hours where someone can readily feel "trapped". Being in one spot for hours and feeling all of these stresses at once?
It's not just about caring for Baby.

Breastfeeding is natural... but that doesn't mean it's always easy. 🤱💛

If you're in this season, remember—you’re doing an amazing job, one feed at a time. ❤️

This is a gentle mid-week reminder for all of you: Your rock bottom moments don't define you. They refine you.

Also, the floor has seen some things, but it never judges. (We have all been there.)

Please know that if you are here, walking with me, there is no pretense. We are battle worn, and beautiful.

You are not alone.

July is National Bereaved Parents Awareness Month.

And before you say, “It was just a miscarriage…”
Please don’t.

It was never just a miscarriage.
It was a baby.

A baby they loved.
A future they had already started imagining.
A lifetime of memories they never got the chance to make.

You don’t have to meet your child to become their parent.

So this month, remember the mothers and fathers whose arms are empty but whose hearts never will be.

Their babies mattered.
Their grief is real.
And they will always be parents.

🚨🚨🚨 Do not cover car seats and strollers in the summer.

While we know direct sunlight can pose a risk, fully covering a car seat or stroller, even with thin material, can pose a serious risk to all young children, but especially infants.

Infants are not great at regulating their body temperatures making them susceptible to getting too hot or too cold faster than older children and adults.

Many parents think a thin blanket can offer sun protection. However, in just 20 minutes, the temperature under a blanket could increase by 20 degrees Fahrenheit compared to the temperature outside.

This means if it's already 90-100 degrees during this heatwave, covering baby could create a space that is 110-120+ degrees making heat stroke very likely. Once baby's core body temperature reaches 104 degrees, it is a serious medical concern necessitating care. (This is not the same as a fever related to illness).

Wide brimmed hats, shade, uv protected clothing, sunscreen, and umbrellas offer safer coverage than blankets. Stroller fans WITH mist can also help. In severe heat, dry fans may not cool effectively.

Ideally, during heat waves, babies spend time indoor, in safe water play, or shade with fans. Limit time outdoors. Allow babies to breastfeed on demand to stay hydrated. Formula fed infants might need a bottle sooner than their typical schedule. NO plain water in infants too young to also consume solids as this can create an electrolyte imbalance.

Protect babies from too much direct sunlight but NOT via a blanket over their seat or stroller.

👇🏽 Did you know the temperature could rise quickly?

According to multiple news sources: "Two Colorado men are challenging a state law that they say illegally protects girls, but not boys, from medically unnecessary ge***al cutting. In a lawsuit filed last week in Denver District Court, they argue the distinction violates Colorado's Equal Rights Amendment."

'“Every person, including every child, has a right to bodily integrity and autonomy, regardless of biological s*x. These rights are violated when the law conditions the protection of bodily integrity and personal autonomy on an individual’s s*x. The law of Colorado does just that,” the lawsuit reads.

"The lawsuit centers on a section of Colorado's child abuse law that makes certain forms of medically unnecessary female ge***al cutting a crime."

This isn't the first time citizens or a government have sought to ban circumcision. Despite strong public support for a ban, the Danish parliament rejected a citizens' initiative in May 2021 that sought to criminalize the practice. Major political parties opposed the bill, citing the country's commitment to protecting religious freedoms.

Whether there is ever a ban or not, these discussions can be important. It helps parents better understand risks, benefits, etc., of a typically elective procedure. Very occasionally, there is a medical condition where circumcision is beneficial (e.g. using tissue to correct hypospadias). However, this is the exception rather than the rule, despite long held beliefs in some regions.

👇🏽 Do you think there could ever be ban? Or is that infringing on parental rights?
