Grief changes you.

It pushes you.
It pulls things out of you.
It reveals parts of you that you didn’t even know existed.

Grief will show you your strength and your softness. It will reveal what matters, what no longer fits, and what you’ve been holding onto for far too long.

It teaches you that life is precious and tomorrow isn’t promised. It makes you question things you once accepted without thought. It can make you love differently, speak differently, set boundaries differently, and show up differently.

Some days, grief breaks you wide open. Other days, it introduces you to a version of yourself you may have never met otherwise.

I’m learning that grief isn’t only about who or what I lost.

It’s also about who I am becoming because I loved, because I lost, and because I’m still here.

Grief changes you.

And I don’t think I’m supposed to go back to who I was before it. I think I’m learning how to honor who I am now.

Grief changes you.

Grief makes you meet the parts of yourself you may have spent years avoiding. It brings you face-to-face with who you really are underneath the roles, expectations, and masks.

Grief takes the mask off.

It has a way of reminding you that life is happening right now. Not when everything is perfect. Not when you finally have it all figured out. Right now.

And sometimes, as painful as it is to admit, loved ones have to leave this physical life in order for us to finally start living ours.

Maybe that’s one of grief’s hardest lessons:
Their life ended, but yours didn’t.

So live.
Love deeper.
Say what you mean.
Stop shrinking.
Take the trip.
Wear the outfit.
Tell people you love them.
Choose yourself.
Be ALL of who you came here to be.
