You can’t think yourself out of having ADHD but the wrong mindset or beliefs can make things harder on you.

Disrupt the negative thought patterns and notice what starts to happen.

How many things have you been moving from list to list? Those are the ones that might benefit from this shift!

Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t magic and there may be other factors at play but this tool is a helpful way to externalize the EFs that we often struggle with!

Here are a couple of examples:

Instead of “figure out budget” ➡️ Make a list of all accounts (bank, credit cards, loans) or Identify all restaurant charges on last month’s cc statement.

Instead of upload receipts ➡️ sort receipts by month (inspired by a recent client conversation)

Instead of meal plan ➡️ Spend 6 minutes brainstorming and writing dinners I’ve liked recently

You likely won’t always need tasks broken down in this way but if you’re struggling to activate, it can be a great way to gain traction.

Bonus: to reduce overwhelm, only write the next one or 2 specific tasks for a project instead of the entire thing!

Am I wrong?

Sometimes the biggest part of the work is right sizing what you’re up against. When our belief is that we’re constantly screwing up, survival mode kicks in and our attention system shuts down making our ADHD symptoms feel even worse.

Shifting your perspective and gaining clarity can be a powerful way to ground yourself and be reminded of what you’re actually capable of.

It’s all about finding the sweet spot between grace and accountability. Despite what you might believe, they can co-exist.
