Reflexology certification can be easy. In Florida there are no specific requirements beyond having a massage license.

In addition to having my massage license, I opted to train for a year, 300 hours of lecture, many hours of practice, 80 documented case studies, a 200 question anatomy exam, a 200 question reflexology exam and a practical, with meeting continuing education credit requirements to maintain my certification.

This image was posted in a reflexology group (any person with a "certicate" can join) to use for marketing purposes. Dozens 'liked' the image and thanked to person posting. And yet I IMMEDIATELY noticed the major flaw.

This basically illustrates the 12 hour course certification versus my American Reflexology Certification Board certification.

Stiff big toe that doesn't bend sufficiently towards top of your foot (dorsiflex), will torment your knees.

Wearing flip-flops drastically reduces dorsiflexion; lifting the great toe is essential for a normal, healthy stride.

This is wrong on SO many levels! Most importantly for these:

■ excessive tissue manipulation which can overstimulate your nervous system

■ can cause muscle damage

■ can trigger a serious medical condition called rhabdomyolysis. This happens when crushed muscle releases harmful proteins into your bloodstream, which can clog your kidneys.

Diagnosis: dyshidrotic eczema (initially itchy, then cracks open, is painful, then begins to harden and discolor in the final healing process)

Physiological cause: triggered by stress, sweat, contact with metals like nickel, or fungal infections

Reflexology indicator/significance: rooted in past work-related stress, powerlessness, or feeling overwhelmed

Client confirmed the reflexology significance.

Despite client following all the necessary physical treatments for several months (unlike typical expected healing of about 4 weeks), it was not until the reflexology aspects were addressed, that the dyshidrotic eczema began to heal.
