Be honest.

On a scale of 1 to 5 β€” how do you actually feel when you wake up in the morning?
😴 1 β€” Still exhausted. What even is sleep.
πŸ˜‘ 2 β€” Functional. Barely.
😐 3 β€” Okay, but I needed three alarms.
πŸ™‚ 4 β€” Pretty good.
✨ 5 β€” Rested and ready. (Is this real life?)

Drop your number in the comments. We genuinely want to know. πŸ‘‡

And if you're a 1 or a 2 most mornings, and you've been that way for a while β€” that experience is worth paying attention to. Waking up unrestored isn't just frustrating. It can be associated with how the airway and surrounding muscles are functioning during sleep, not just the routine around it.

That's a conversation most people have never had. But it might be exactly the one worth starting.

We read every single comment. Drop your number below.

Sleep hygiene is important. But it was never designed to do what you've been asking it to do. πŸ‘‡

Most of the sleep advice out there focuses on the conditions around sleep, the schedule, the environment, the wind-down routine. And those things genuinely matter.

But they don't address what the body is doing during sleep.

Sleep quality is also shaped by how well the airway functions through the night, how the tongue maintains its position, how coordinated the throat and airway muscles are, whether breathing stays efficient and nasal from the time you fall asleep to the time you wake up.

When those things are well-supported, sleep can do what it was designed to do. When they're not β€” even a perfect routine can leave you waking up unrestored.

If you've been optimizing your sleep habits for a long time and still not feeling rested, you haven't been failing. You may just be missing part of the conversation.

You've done everything right.

The consistent bedtime. The no-screens rule. The magnesium. The lavender. The sleep tracker that tells you you're getting eight hours while your body insists otherwise.

And you still wake up tired. Jaw tight. Behind before the day has asked anything of you.

Here's something that doesn't get talked about enough in the sleep wellness space: sleep quality isn't always a routine problem. For some people, it may be connected to how the airway and surrounding muscles are functioning during sleep, how well the tongue maintains its position, how coordinated the throat muscles are, and whether nasal breathing is being supported through the night.

When those things are working the way they're designed to, sleep has a chance to actually restore. When they're not, even eight hours can leave you running on empty.

This week we're talking about sleep, not the habits around it, but the function underneath it. Because you deserve more than another thing to optimize.

Stress gets blamed for a lot of things. And yes, stress can absolutely make grinding worse.

But here's what most people are never told:

When the tongue sits low in the mouth, when the airway is partially obstructed during sleep, or when the jaw muscles are chronically overworking to compensate for poor oral posture, the body responds by clenching and grinding. It's actually your jaw's way of trying to open the airway and stabilize itself.

Which means no amount of stress management can fully resolve the issue if the underlying muscle patterns remain.

That's exactly what myofunctional therapy addresses: the muscle imbalances that can keep the grinding cycle going long after the stressful season has passed.

Here's a fun fact that might change how you think about breathing tonight. πŸ‘‡

Your nose produces nitric oxide, a molecule your mouth cannot make. And nitric oxide is a big deal. It helps dilate your airways, improves how efficiently your body absorbs oxygen, supports healthy blood flow, and even plays a role in immune function.

When you breathe through your mouth at night, you bypass all of that. Every. Single. Night.

That's part of why mouth breathers often wake up tired, foggy, and tense, even after a full night of sleep. The hours are there. The quality isn't.

Your nose was literally designed for breathing. Your mouth was designed for eating and talking. Giving the job of breathing to the mouth has real consequences, and most people have no idea it's even happening.

The good news? Nasal breathing is a skill. And with the right muscle retraining, your body can get back to doing what it was always designed to do.

πŸ’¬ Save this one and share it with someone who snores or wakes up exhausted. They might need to see it.

Let's clear something up, because this comes up a lot. πŸ‘‡

A night guard can be a helpful tool for protecting your teeth from the effects of grinding and clenching. But what if the grinding itself is your body's response to something deeper?

Think of it like putting a mat under a leaky pipe. Useful? Yes. Does it fix the leak? No.

The root of most TMJ dysfunction involves muscle imbalances β€” in the tongue, jaw, face, airway, and even posture. When those muscles aren't working properly, the jaw absorbs the strain. Night after night.
Myofunctional therapy is a root-cause approach that actually retrains that muscle patterns β€” so your jaw gets real relief, not just protection from the symptoms.
You deserve more than just a bandaid. You deserve to feel better.

πŸ“© Reach out or visit www.sawtoothmyo.com to learn about how myofunctional therapy can help. Let's talk about what's really going on.

Here's something that genuinely surprises most people when they hear it for the first time:

πŸŒ™ Your tongue position while you sleep directly affects the quality of your rest.

When the tongue rests low in the mouth, instead of up against the palate where it belongs, it can fall back toward the throat during sleep. That partial blockage of the airway is what leads to snoring, restless sleep, and in some cases, sleep-disordered breathing.

And the frustrating part? You can sleep 8 hours and still wake up exhausted, because the quality of that sleep is being disrupted all night long.

The tongue is a muscle. And like any muscle, it can be retrained.

Myofunctional therapy works on building the tone and coordination of the tongue (and surrounding muscles) so it maintains a better position during sleep, which can mean better airflow, quieter nights, and actually waking up feeling rested.

Pretty wild that something this small can make that kind of difference, right? 😊
