More than 20 years of sustained malaria work on Bioko Island are informing Equatorial Guinea's ambition to eliminate the disease nationwide. New reporting from AP looks at the data, community trust and long-term commitment behind that progress.

Equatorial Guinea has tackled malaria with a successful strategy on Bioko Island. The island has reduced malaria infections with two decades of data collection, funding and community engagement.

In Niger, Mariama saw the impact firsthand after her children began receiving seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC). Since participating in the campaign, she reports fewer clinic visits for malaria, healthier children, and a greater understanding of how to protect her family against malaria.
