US army Veteran, Athlete and Outdoorsman

Saturday, friends and family gathered to honor Calvin "Smoot" Hickman, Jr. at his Life Celebration. Calvin was a proud United States Army Veteran who cherished his participation in the Great River Honor Flight and spent his life working hard as a welder, truck driver, and laborer, while sharing his welding skills with others. An accomplished athlete and outdoorsman, he enjoyed fast-pitch softball, bowling, fishing the Mississippi River, hunting, poker games, football, and riding his Honda 750 motorcycle. Known for his humor, made-up words, love of dancing, classic movies and television, cold Pepsi, and good food, Calvin treasured time with family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Horses, Gardening and Spending Time at Home

Monday, we honored the life of Tonya R. Gaus Duncan at her Life Celebration. Tonya was a strong, independent woman who loved deeply, cared fiercely, and never hesitated to speak her mind, making those she loved feel both cherished and supported. She worked for many years as an accountant at Caterpillar in Peoria before later serving at the Knox City post office, and she enjoyed horses, barrel racing, pool, volleyball, gardening, shopping, cooking, and spending time at home. Above all, Tonya will be remembered for her generous heart, unwavering determination, and the love she shared with family and friends.

US Army Veteran, Farmer and A Man of Deep Faith

This morning, we honored the life of Robert Leo Pearl at his Life Celebration. Leo was a proud United States Army veteran who served as a helicopter mechanic before working for the Schlegel Corporation and retired to the life he loved most, farming. He took great pride in raising cattle, goats, and sheep, and formed lasting friendships within the local Amish community. A man of deep faith, honesty, and strong convictions, Leo was devoted to his family and enjoyed sharing the values of hard work and perseverance with his children through 4-H and horse shows. He also enjoyed sports, Louis L’Amour novels, World War II history, Star Trek, and the companionship of his beloved dogs, leaving behind a legacy of faith, dedication, and quiet strength.

Robert Leo Pearl, 86, of Stoutsville MO, formerly of the Canton and St. Patrick community passed away at 3:28 PM, Sunday, October 4, 2026, at Monroe Manor in Paris, MO.

Mass of Christian Burial: Celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at the Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church in St. Patrick, Missouri, with Fr. John Henderson presiding. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Leo’s life during a visitation on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Davis Funeral Home in Canton, Missouri. A Rosary service will precede the visitation at 4:30 PM.

Farmer, Mentor and Outdoorsman

John was a lifelong farmer whose passion for agriculture led him to several business ventures, including a Massey Ferguson dealership and later The Break Hunting Preserve. He was a dedicated mentor to youth, sharing his love of hunting, fishing, and the outdoors, coaching an undefeated Warsaw baseball team, and living by principles of fairness, hard work, and helping others. John enjoyed fishing, Cardinals baseball, college football, traveling, and time with his beloved dog, Rock, and will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for family and community.
