Congrats, Dr. Morris! Well deserved!

ABOVE AND BEYOND

Recently, a patient was brought in to the Emergency Department at SIH Harrisburg Medical Center and it was determined he would need to be transported to another facility to receive surgery.

Despite the fast-paced emergency tensions and being flown out to another facility - Dr Clayborn Morris at SIH Harrisburg Medical Center made a point to call and check on the young patient to ensure he was doing okay and was being cared for.

The patient's parent told us "You truly do not get that kind of care from ER doctors. He truly went above and beyond for my son and I am very grateful."

For his attention to care and efforts to help, Dr. Morris has received the Physician Shining Star award!

💙 A familiar face. A simple video call. A moment a family will never forget.

Please join us in congratulating Andrea Renshaw-Tye of Harrisburg Medical Center, recipient of the SIH Nursing TONI Award.

While caring for a patient who was confused and experiencing significant hearing challenges, Andrea looked beyond the task at hand and focused on what mattered most: connection. By finding a creative solution and using technology in a new way, she helped facilitate a virtual visit with the patient's granddaughter.

The patient's reaction was heartwarming. What could have been a difficult day became a meaningful moment for the patient, family and care team.

This is why compassionate care matters. It's not always the medical equipment or treatments people remember most. Sometimes, it's the caregiver who takes an extra step to help someone feel seen, heard and connected.

Andrea's teamwork, optimism, nurturing spirit and integrity reflect the qualities honored through the TONI Award and the values our caregivers bring to Southern Illinois every day.

🌼 Congrats to Carrie Sisk, RN, at The Mulberry Center, our latest DAISY Award recipient! 🌼

Carrie's compassion and dedication shine through in every patient interaction. One patient shared:
"I came to The Mulberry Center when I was at my lowest. Carrie was someone I looked forward to seeing every morning when I woke up. She is so kind, understanding and empathetic. She is always willing to listen and help. She is someone I feel safe with. She makes me feel supported and she's a wonderful woman and nurse."

The nomination went on to recognize the kindness, care and empathy Carrie shows not only to them, but to other patients as well, adding, "Having Carrie has made my healing so much easier."

Thank you, Carrie, for the difference you make every day through your compassion, support and commitment to those in your care. We are proud to recognize you with this well-deserved honor.

Yet another Shining Star at SIH Harrisburg Medical Center! Amy Stevens, NP has been recognized by our team here for her care and devotion.

"On top of being a compassionate provider, Amy is a strong advocate for patients who are too often overlooked or stigmatized because of mental illness." Kind and strong words from the supporting team that nominated Amy. Keep it up, Amy!

SHINING STAR: We recognized Dr. Chandra Jwala with the Physician Shining Star last week.

A patient's family nominated him for exceptional service. "Dr. Jwala was a wonderful doctor to my Mother. She was 94 yrs old with dementia and had fallen. He was so very caring, and had patience with her. We all (9 of us) feel he went over & above to try and help my Mom and the family."

NEW CHARGING STATION: If you have an electric vehicle there's a new place to charge up here at SIH Harrisburg Medical Center.

The station is on the ChargePoint Network and can be found in the hospital's main entrance parking lot.

A big shout out to the city of Harrisburg and Ameren for helping us bring the charging station to HMC. We're always looking for ways to better serve our patients.

KNOW THE SIGNS: May is Stroke Awareness Month, and our SIH Brain & Spine team wants you to remember to BEFAST.

Balance: Sudden loss of balance or coordination
Eyes: Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
Face: Facial drooping, usually on one side.
Arms (or leg): Arm/leg weakness or numbness, especially on one side.
Speech: Slurred speech or difficulty speaking.
Time: If any of these symptoms are present, call 911 immediately.
