More than 41,000 doses of naloxone distributed in one year through newspaper-style boxes at Philadelphia fire stations — available 24/7 and at no cost.

Through our Overdose Prevention Program, the Shapiro Administration supplies the naloxone for Philadelphia’s Naloxone in Black initiative, expanding access in communities disproportionately impacted by overdose.

Secretary Dr. Latika Davis-Jones joined city leaders to mark the initiative’s one-year milestone.

Part of recovery is discovering what you’re capable of—and sometimes that happens outside the walls of a treatment center. 🐴💜

Secretary Dr. Latika Davis-Jones and members of the department’s team joined the Beaver County PA Behavioral Health Drug and Alcohol Program and Matrix Treatment Center at Black Iron Stables LLC in Fombell to see the Peace Horse Enlightenment Program in action.

Women receiving treatment at Matrix visit the stables, where working with horses provides a supportive, nonjudgmental setting to work through trauma while building trust and confidence, practicing self-control and leadership, and confronting fear.

The Beaver County Behavioral Health Drug and Alcohol Program, one of the department’s local offices, contracts with department-licensed Matrix to provide substance use disorder treatment in the county.

The Peace Horse Enlightenment Program is one example of how treatment and community-based opportunities can work together to support the whole person in recovery.

For the third year, the Shapiro Administration is highlighting Recovery in Nature—a year-round partnership between the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) that encourages Pennsylvanians to connect nature, wellness, and recovery.

During National Recovery Month, we're spotlighting 18 featured trails and waterways across nearly 20 Pennsylvania State Parks and conservation areas, representing all nine Regional Recovery Hub regions.

On September 29, DDAP Secretary Dr. Latika Davis-Jones will join NorthBound & Co, the Region 9 Regional Recovery Hub, for a forest bathing experience at Lackawanna State Park.

Hosted in partnership with DCNR and the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs in recognition of National Recovery Month and Su***de Prevention Month, the event highlights the restorative benefits of nature for people in recovery and Pennsylvania veterans.
