We talk a lot about self-care.
And we should.
We talk about mindfulness, too. Taking a breath. Noticing whatโs happening in your body. Becoming more present.
But we don't talk nearly enough, or AT ALL about reflection.
Reflection asks something different of us.
What is it about the whining that bothers me so much?
What gets stirred up when my toddler tells me โnoโ?
Why does letting them leave the house in mismatched clothes, pajamas, and a winter hat bother me?
Reflection gives us space to get curiousโnot just about our children, but about ourselves.
I wrote more about the difference between self-care, mindfulness, and reflection, and why I think reflection deserves a much bigger place in the parenting conversation.

Get up before they do. Sleep when they sleep. Ask for help. Accept help when itโs offered. Get a good babysitter...
