What if the things that frustrate us at home become the things we enjoy on vacation?

Tonight, while on vacation, I found myself waiting for a drawbridge to open and close.

Everyone forced to stop.

Cars lined up.

Nobody could move forward until the bridge came back down.

I heard the bell and ran with my camera like a tourist 🤷🏻‍♀️

The boats passed through.
The water sparkled.
Kids pointed and smiled.

It made me think.

If I were trying to get across town for dinner after a long day, I might have been frustrated by the delay.

But on vacation?

It was part of the experience. I took three videos of different boats.

Same bridge.
Same wait.
Different perspective.

How often is that true in life?

Sometimes the situation doesn’t change.

But our mindset does.

When we’re rushing, every delay feels like an obstacle.

When we’re present, the same delay can become an opportunity to notice something beautiful.

Tonight’s reminder:

Not every pause is a problem to solve.

Sometimes it’s an invitation to slow down, look around, and enjoy the moment you’re in.

✨ Same circumstance. Different perspective. Different experience.

Learning a new skill in front of your child is kind of a lot of pressure 🤯

I was not thinking it was “easy” at first.

With practice I’m now the proud owner of a bracelet 😏

Katie Ledecky burst on to the international swimming scene at the age of fifteen when she won the 2012 London Olympics in the 800-meter freestyle. 🏊‍♀️

Although she had never swum an international meet, it didn’t play havoc with her nerves. She took on the 190 world record holder, British swimmer Rebecca Adlington, in the middle of the pool in the finals, leading wire to wire as the commentators sputtered in disbelief throughout the entire race.

Later, Ledecky admitted that she’d never envisioned herself anywhere but the top of the Olympic podium, despite her youth and lack of elite racing experience.

The coach who guided her in subsequent years to a number of world records explained her mind-set this way: “Katie isn’t afraid of failure, but failure isn’t an option.”

The reason grit requires skillful risk-taking is because gritty people often break new ground, doing things that haven’t been done by them and often by anyone else.

⭐They have to go outside their comfort zone over and over to get where they want to go, while they have no guarantee of success.

➡️They’d rather bet on themselves than accept a life where they would have to live without knowing what might have been.
