A sudden twist of the foot or a rolled ankle can sometimes cause more than a sprain. 🦶

Fifth metatarsal fractures affect the long bone on the outside of the foot that connects to the little toe. Two common types are avulsion fractures and Jones fractures—and both can cause pain, swelling, tenderness, bruising and difficulty walking.

Because some fifth metatarsal fractures can be difficult to heal, getting the right diagnosis and treatment is important.

👣 Pain on the outside of your foot after an injury? Don’t just assume it’s a sprain. Schedule an appointment with Mendoza Podiatry to have it evaluated.

🥗🦶 Did you know your diet can have a direct impact on the health of your feet?🥗🦶

The right nutrients can help:

🦴 Build strong bones with calcium and vitamin D

🐶👣 Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

If you've been around for a while, you know that we're crazy about our pets here at Mendoza Podiatry. There's nothing better than getting outside for a walk with your four-legged best friend. It's great exercise for both of you, but don't forget to protect both your feet and your dog's paws during these hot summer days.

Before you head out:

🌡️ Check the pavement. If it's too hot for the back of your hand for 7 seconds, it's too hot for your dog's paws—and uncomfortable for your feet, too.
👟 Wear supportive walking shoes to help prevent blisters, heel pain, and foot fatigue.
💧 Stay hydrated and choose shaded routes whenever possible.
🐾 After your walk, check your dog's paws and your own feet for cuts, blisters, splinters, or burns.

Walking is one of the easiest ways to stay active, improve your health, and spend quality time with your pet. A little preparation can help keep every step safe and enjoyable for both of you.

💬 We'd love to see your walking buddy! Share a photo of your dog in the comments and tell us their name. 🐕❤️

💙👣 Happy National Senior Citizens Day!💙👣

Today we celebrate the older adults who have spent a lifetime caring for their families, building their communities, and inspiring the generations that follow.

One of the best ways to maintain independence as we age is by staying active—and healthy feet play a big role in making that possible.

As we get older, it's common to experience changes like:

👣 Arthritis and joint pain
👣 Balance problems
👣 Bunions and hammertoes
👣 Thickened or ingrown toenails
👣 Diabetic foot complications
👣 Heel pain and reduced mobility

The good news? Many of these conditions can be treated or managed before they begin to interfere with your daily life.

Whether your goal is to keep walking the neighborhood, enjoy time with the grandchildren, travel, or simply move through each day comfortably, taking care of your feet is an important part of maintaining your independence.

This National Senior Citizens Day, take a moment to appreciate the incredible seniors in your life and encourage them to prioritize their foot health, too. Small steps today can help keep them moving for years to come.

💬 Tell us: What's your favorite activity that helps you—or a senior you love—stay active and independent?

🦶❤️ Happy National I Love My Feet Day! ❤️🦶

Your feet are pretty amazing. They support your entire body, absorb thousands of pounds of pressure every day, and carry you through work, workouts, vacations, and life's biggest moments.

Today is the perfect reminder to give them a little extra love!

👣 Show your feet some appreciation by:
✅ Wearing supportive, well-fitting shoes
✅ Stretching your feet and calves daily
✅ Moisturizing dry skin (but not between your toes!)
✅ Checking for cuts, blisters, or changes in your skin or nails
✅ Scheduling an evaluation if you've been dealing with persistent foot or heel pain

Remember, foot pain isn't a normal part of aging or an active lifestyle. Small problems can become bigger ones if they're ignored, but early treatment can often keep you moving comfortably.

💙 Tell us in the comments: What's your favorite activity that healthy feet allow you to enjoy? Walking the neighborhood? Pickleball? Traveling? Chasing grandkids? We'd love to hear!

From all of us at Mendoza Podiatry, here's to healthy, happy feet today and every day! 👣

There’s nothing like reconnecting with colleagues, sharing ideas, and learning from others who are just as passionate about advancing foot and ankle care. 👣💙

Dr. Gina Mendoza recently attended the American Podiatric Medical Association’s 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting — “The National” — at Ga***rd Opryland in Nashville. She enjoyed catching up with fellow podiatrists Dr. Stephanie Michael, DPM, and Dr. Elizabeth Lu. 📸

The four-day conference brought podiatric professionals together from across the country for education, networking, and conversations about the latest developments in patient care, practice leadership, advocacy, and foot and ankle care innovations.

It’s always great to learn, reconnect, and bring fresh ideas back home to our patients at Mendoza Podiatry! 🦶✨

🦶💙 Did you know rheumatoid arthritis can affect your feet before you notice symptoms anywhere else?

For many people living with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), foot and ankle pain, stiffness, swelling, and difficulty walking are among the earliest signs of the disease. Left untreated, RA can lead to joint damage, deformities, and a loss of mobility.

Common foot-related symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis include:

👣 Pain and swelling in the feet or ankles
👣 Bunions and hammertoes
👣 Heel pain
👣 Flat feet
👣 Achilles tendon pain
👣 Difficulty walking or standing for long periods

The good news? Early diagnosis and the right treatment can help relieve pain, protect your joints, and keep you moving. Depending on your needs, treatment may include custom orthotics, supportive footwear, medications, injections, or, in some cases, surgery.

📖 We've shared this patient education guide from the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons to help you better understand how rheumatoid arthritis affects the feet and what you can do about it.

If foot pain is interfering with your daily life, don't assume it's just "getting older." Mendoza Podiatry can help identify the cause and recommend the best treatment options. Call our office at 615.826.0941 to schedule an appointment.

💬 Do you or someone you know live with rheumatoid arthritis? Share your experience in the comments. We'd love to hear what has helped you stay active.

✅ How the HyProCure implant solves the problem
✅ Why more and more people are choosing this option

🌿🚶 August is National Wellness Month, a perfect reminder that healthy living starts from the ground up.

Whether your wellness goals include walking more, hitting the gym, playing pickleball, or simply keeping up with your family, healthy feet are the foundation that keeps you moving.

If foot pain is slowing you down, don't ignore it. Conditions like heel pain, bunions, arthritis, tendonitis, and ingrown toenails can make staying active difficult—but they don't have to.

👟 Wear supportive shoes that fit properly.
🧘 Stretch your feet and calves before and after exercise.
💧 Keep your feet clean, dry, and moisturized.
🦶 Check your feet regularly for changes, especially if you have diabetes.
🏃 Listen to your body! Pain is a sign that something isn't right.

🎒👟 Back-to-school shopping isn't just about finding the coolest sneakers, it's about finding the right fit!

Did you know that children's feet can grow up to two shoe sizes in just six months? Shoes that are too tight (or even too loose) can contribute to blisters, calluses, heel pain, ingrown toenails, and other foot problems that can make it harder for kids to stay active and focused in school.

As you're checking off your back-to-school list, keep these foot-friendly tips in mind:

✅ Leave about a finger's width between the longest toe and the end of the shoe.
✅ Replace shoes that have worn-out soles or little cushioning.
✅ Look for supportive shoes that bend at the toes, not in the middle.
✅ If your child has flat feet, choose shoes with good arch support and a wide toe box.

A well-fitting pair of shoes helps growing feet stay healthy, comfortable, and ready for everything from the classroom to the playground.

📚👣 Parents: When was the last time you checked your child's shoe size? You might be surprised how quickly they've grown!
