Like I said in a reel I posted last week - there are a lot of people who are confused about what they should be eating in order to improve their health. Big food marketing has done a fantastic job brainwashing people into thinking that a bag of whey-coated potato chips or a marshmallow bar with 16 ingredients are a better protein option for you than an 8 ounce steak or a serving of greek yogurt. These companies have tricked you into eating more processed junk food by disguising it as a health trend and putting it in a pretty package.
Stop buying things based on the front of the box, reading the label is the only way to truly know what you are consuming!
They purposefully use words to grab your attention such as - "high protein, high fiber, fat free, sugar free, source of antioxidants, etc....". While these claims may be true to an extent, other factors (like ingredients) really do matter!!! Sure, that Fiber one bar mayyyy have 7 grams of fiber, but it also has sugar, sugar alcohol (laxative 🫣), oils, and bleached flour.
If you regularly eat anything from the 'avoid' category or things of a similar nature, I suggest that you eliminate or strongly limit them if you really want to make improvements in your health. In the case of needing a quick grab 'n go packaged option, try swapping for products in the 'limit' row. These are usually made with real food ingredients and are minimally processed; however, although they are a better choice than the top row, they are still not as optimal as their whole food counterparts. Try adding more foods from the bottom of the graphics to your cart the next time you're at the store - REAL 'health food' is simple!!
TIPS--
• Avoid: artificial colors & flavors, sugar alcohol, artificial sweeteners (dextrose, surcalose, maltodextrin, etc), excessive gums & emulsifiers
• Choose: Organic when possible, minimally processed, natural colors & flavors
