We, as moms, are not just managing behavior in those meltdown moments, we are holding the emotional world of a whole little human who hasn’t yet learned how to hold it for themselves.

And that is heavy sometimes. It requires patience we don’t always have, softness we’re still learning, and regulation we’re still practicing ourselves.

But even in our imperfect moments, something powerful is still happening: when we don’t turn away… when we don’t shame… when we stay emotionally reachable… we become their safety.

And that safety is what our children will carry long after the moment is gone, into how they love, how they cope, and how they speak to themselves.

Every time you choose calm over shame, you are not just handling a moment, you are shaping their future.
You are teaching your child that emotions are safe, that connection is not lost in difficult moments, and that they do not need to hide parts of themselves to be loved.

These small responses become internal beliefs.
And those beliefs will follow them into adulthood, into relationships, and into how they treat themselves when life gets hard.

Parenting is not about controlling behavior in the moment - it is about building emotional safety that lasts long after the moment has passed.

Every interaction with your child is shaping more than the moment, it is shaping their inner voice.

The tone you use and the way you respond in difficult moments gradually become the way they speak to themselves.

With time, your voice becomes their self-talk —
their source of confidence or self-doubt.

If your child spoke to themselves the way you speak to them… what would it sound like?

This phase does not get as much attention as say the toddler or teenage stages, but it is important nonetheless.
Behind the mood swings, the sensitivity, and the testing of limits, there is a child whose brain is changing faster than their ability to cope.

They are not trying to be difficult, they are trying to make sense of new internal experiences they don’t yet understand.

What they need most is not correction…
but connection, emotional safety, and guidance.

Because the way they are met in these years becomes their inner voice later on.

Learning to validate your emotions while regulating your responses is a powerful form of self-respect.

It’s not about being “calm all the time.”
It’s about feeling deeply… and then choosing wisely.

With practice, you create space between what you feel and what you do… and in that space? That’s where the growth happens.

Engaging in this work requires self-awareness, emotional regulation, and a willingness to listen without defensiveness.

When a child feels safe enough to express, “this is how I feel”
and is met with validation rather than dismissal,
a new pattern is created.

These moments shape not only the child’s emotional safety, but also their ability to form healthy relationships later in life.

Mother’s Day can be many things all at once...

For some, it’s a beautiful celebration.
For others, it’s a reminder of:

🤍the mother they miss
🤍the child they hoped for
🤍the version of motherhood they imagined
🤍strained relationships
🤍infertility, loss, postpartum struggles, or the invisible weight of caregiving

If today feels complicated, you are not alone.

Rest when you can.
Lower the expectations.
Let “good enough” be enough today.

Holding space for everyone who finds Mother’s Day to be tender, messy, painful, beautiful, or all of the above.🤍

Many veterans continue to struggle with PTSD and depression despite standard treatments.

This has led to growing interest in newer approaches, including psychedelic therapies.

These treatments work by helping the brain process trauma and emotion more effectively, often with faster results.

While many options are still in clinical trials, some medically supervised treatments that work on similar brain systems are already safe and legal in Canada.

For veterans who qualify, these treatments may be covered through Veterans Affairs Canada, making access more realistic than many people realize.

Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week 🤍

Behind every pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey is a story we don’t always see. Maternal mental health is important and emotional struggles are more common than many realize. No mother should feel alone.

This week is a reminder to listen without judgment, to support without conditions, and to speak openly about the realities of motherhood. Checking in, offering help, and simply being present can make a meaningful difference.

If you’re struggling, reaching out is not a sign of weakness.

Let’s work to reduce the stigma and build a community where every mother feels safe to ask for help.
