🖤 Looks like Black Velvet is bringing her sister to the farmstand… ❤️

You loved meeting Black Velvet, our dark and decadent black cocoa cake layered with blackberry compote and finished with black cocoa buttercream.

Well, this Halloween weekend, she’s inviting her sister Roxann to join her for a very special debut at The Rusty Rake Homestead.

❤️ Meet Roxann. Inspired by the sultry sounds of The Police, this velvet beauty is taking red velvet back to its roots. Before food coloring turned red velvet into a fire-engine-red spectacle, the cake was all about flavor, with a touch of cocoa and a subtle, natural hue. Our version uses beet powder to enhance the color without synthetic dyes, so Roxann has a softer, more natural appearance rather than that bright, artificial red. She’s not here to put on a show with food coloring. She’s here to bring back a little old-school charm.

🖤 Black Velvet is dark, rich, and a little mysterious.

Michigan woke up and chose 🥶😂 So naturally, I had to get a Sweater Weather rug for the farmstand to match the cake! 🍂🍰

Apparently, Mother Nature saw my weekend menu and decided to help with the marketing. 🤣

The Sweater Weather cake has been a BIG hit, and we’re nearly sold out! There are still a couple of slices left of BOTH Sweater Weather and Black Velvet, but once they’re gone, they’re gone! 😋

🍂 A LITTLE SNEAK PEEK OF WHAT’S COMING THIS WEEKEND! 🍂

I’ve been busy in the kitchen, and I’ve got some delicious things planned for this weekend at The Rusty Rake Homestead! 🧡

We have TWO brand-new cake flavors making their debut, a couple of customer favorites returning, and one more weekend for our “Mind Your Biscuits” to see how they do!

🏆 We’re bringing back our blue ribbon winners from this year’s Ingham County Fair, including our Lemon Meringue Pie Cookies and Lemon Zucchini Bread!

🍓 And yes, our Strawberry Chocolate Chip Cookies are coming back, too! These chocolate chip cookies have strawberry jam baked right in, then get topped with freeze dried strawberries and a chocolate drizzle. They’re worth the wait!

This is just a little preview of what’s coming. We’ll also have other goodies and favorites stocked at the stand, so there will be more to discover when you stop by!

🍂 Something a little different is coming to The Rusty Rake Homestead…

Two new cake slices are making their debut at the farmstand this coming weekend, bringing a little dark indulgence and cozy autumn comfort along with them. DYE FREE!

🖤 Black Velvet
Rich black cocoa cake layered with blackberry compote and finished with dark black cocoa buttercream. Deep, decadent, and beautifully dark, with a touch of blackberry sweetness tucked between the layers.

🍁 Sweater Weather
Brown butter cake layered with pumpkin spice frosting and ribbons of caramel nestled between the layers. Rich brown butter, warm pumpkin spice, hints of vanilla, and buttery caramel come together in a cake that tastes like settling in for a cool fall evening.

One is dark and decadent. The other is warm and cozy. Both are made for the season.

These two new creations will make their first appearance at The Rusty Rake Homestead this coming weekend!

As always, quantities will be limited, so if one catches your eye, be sure to stop by while they’re available.
