One of the most rewarding benefits of my job has been building relationships with patients that span decades and generations, but that wouldn’t be possible without taking some time to learn what makes us tick. Here are some fun facts about me so we can get to know each other better.
1️⃣ I was born in Wichita, Kansas, and raised as an only child by parents who immigrated from India. I grew up with a blend of traditional Indian values and American culture, which shaped much of who I am today. While my parents started with very little, they created a home filled with love, opportunity, education, and strong values — and I’m incredibly grateful for the sacrifices they made for our family.
2️⃣ My family moved to Houston during my high school years, and Texas has truly become home. I attended Baylor University and completed medical school and residency training at the University of Texas Medical Branch before beginning practice in Houston in 1999.
3️⃣ I’m a lifelong Houston sports fan — through the highs and the lows. I still remember cheering for the Oilers long before the Texans arrived, and these days you’ll usually find me following the Texans, Astros, and Rockets closely throughout the year. Sports have always been a fun way to connect with patients and friends outside of medicine, and there’s nothing quite like the energy Houston fans bring to their teams. Baylor sports are another favorite in our household.
4️⃣ Outside of medicine, my greatest joy is spending time with my family, including my parents who live nearby. I also enjoy traveling and experiencing new places, especially with family and close friends.
5️⃣ Music has always been a big part of my life. During residency, I was actually in a band, which turned out to be one of the best stress outlets imaginable during medical training. I still love music, concerts, and occasionally singing when given the opportunity.
