Your doctor ran labs and told you everything looked normal.
Or
You got the functional labs and they found some things.
You got the supplement list.
But did anyone explain why this is happening?
Functional lab testing can give us incredibly useful information.
It can show us where your body is struggling, where a process may be breaking down, and which patterns deserve a closer look.
But finding the pattern is not the same as finding the cause.
Low iron does not automatically mean you need more iron.
We still need to ask why it is low.
Are you getting enough?
Are you absorbing it?
Is inflammation making it harder to access? Or harder to detect that it’s low?
Are you losing it somewhere?
Is your body’s need for it currently higher?
Those are very different problems, and they do not all have the same solution.
The same is true when a test identifies a hormone imbalance, blood sugar dysfunction, poor thyroid conversion, nutrient deficiencies, or changes in the gut.
The most important question is not simply:
“What is out of range?”
It is:
“Why is this happening in you?”
That answer usually cannot be found on the lab report alone.
We have to look at the lab results alongside your symptoms, health history, medications, nutrition, digestion, sleep, stress, environment, and the season of life you are in.
Otherwise, functional medicine can become conventional medicine with more testing and a longer list of supplements.
Supplements can be incredibly useful. But they are tools, not the foundation, and they cannot resolve a problem we have not taken the time to understand.
You deserve more than a list of abnormal findings.
You deserve to understand what your body may be responding to, what is driving the pattern, and what it actually needs from you next.
Do you have functional lab results but still feel confused about what they mean or why these patterns are happening?
