Join us for this month’s Moody in Motion, where we celebrate the incredible individuals who make a difference every day. Each month, we highlight a team member so you can get to know the people, passion, and purpose behind the work we do.

Jess is from Abilene, TX and serves as a Licensed Professional Counselor in our Clinical Department at Moody Neuro Lubbock. She has been a valuable part of our team since 2023!

Her favorite part about working at Moody Neuro Lubbock is being surrounded by amazing clinicians and participating in the interdisciplinary approach that makes our program so unique. She also appreciates the encouragement and opportunities for professional development, supportive environment, and healthy work-life balance that Moody provides.

When not at Moody, you'll find Jess being a mom, taking Pure Barre classes, and spending time at church. She also enjoys coloring, relaxing by the pool, watching random documentaries and comedy specials, listening to music, and spending time with animals.

Thank you for all you do to support our patients and team!

🗣️ June is National Aphasia Awareness Month 🗣️

Aphasia is a communication disorder that can occur after a stroke, traumatic brain injury, or as a result of certain progressive neurological conditions. It can affect a person's ability to speak, understand language, read, and write.

At Moody Neuro Lubbock, our Speech-Language Pathologists play a vital role in evaluating and treating aphasia. Through individualized therapy, education, and communication strategies, our team works closely with patients, families, care partners, and staff to help ensure every individual is provided the opportunity to communicate effectively and participate fully in daily life.

Communication is a basic human need, and everyone deserves to have their voice heard. This month, we encourage our community to learn more about aphasia and support those living with communication challenges.

Together, we can increase awareness, understanding, and connection.

The Texas Tech University Ranching Heritage Center (TTU RHC) provides a unique opportunity to step back in time to explore and learn about the heart and soul of American West ranching history. The exhibits offer a glimpse into the lives of early ranchers and the impact of ranching on our culture by showcasing preserved historic structures.

Moody Neuro Lubbock enjoys each trip to the TTU Ranching Heritage Center, whether you are a history buff or simply looking to enjoy a stroll through the grounds, this always proves to be a fun activity. This activity also targets a variety of skills such as mobility, navigation, social interaction, and community engagement.

Outings to The Refuge are not just a change of scenery; it is a powerful step in brain injury rehabilitation. Being in a new environment, surrounded by nature and working with horses, allows our patients to challenge their skills in real-world ways: communication, problem-solving, balance, and confidence.

These moments spark joy, growth, and often a renewed sense of independence. We’re proud to offer experiences like this that go beyond traditional therapy, because healing happens in many forms, and sometimes, it looks like a dusty trail, a quiet barn, and a horse who listens without saying a word. Keep up with how our team continues to achieve breakthroughs in brain injury with our innovative approaches to treatment.

At Moody Neuro Lubbock, our transdisciplinary treatment model focuses on building functional skills across three key areas: daily living, community integration, and vocation/leisure. By combining expertise across disciplines, we help patients apply skills and strategies in real-world situations to maximize independence and safety.

Recently, our vocational domain put entrepreneurial skills to the test with a Lemonade Stand Challenge! Patients and clinicians teamed up to develop a business plan, create a unique lemonade recipe, and market their product. Each group then brought their vision to life in the kitchen, mixing up their own signature blend.

This hands-on activity encouraged collaboration, problem-solving, creativity, and communication, all while having fun. The best part was sampling each group's delicious creations and celebrating a job well done!

On this Memorial Day, we reflect with gratitude on their courage, dedication, and selflessness. We also extend our appreciation to the families, friends, and loved ones who carry their memories forward each day.

As we spend time with those we care about, may we take a moment to remember and honor the heroes who gave so much for our freedom.

Our Moody Neuro Lubbock therapy team recently facilitated a fun and highly functional outing to Safety City! Patients had the opportunity to ride bikes, navigate real traffic signs, and practice important community mobility skills in a safe, hands-on environment.

Experiences like these help take therapy beyond the clinic walls by promoting real-world problem solving, safety awareness, balance, coordination, and independence. From community mobility to early steps to prepare for driving, our therapy team is committed to helping patients build the confidence and skills needed for everyday life.

We are grateful for community resources like Safety City that allow us to create meaningful rehabilitation experiences for the individuals we serve!
