Elite Myofunctional Therapy I help people breathe, sleep, and feel better through Myofunctional Therapy. From TMJ pain and sleep issues to tongue ties and narrow palates, we faced it all.

Specializing in TMJD, tongue thrust, airway health, and orthodontic relapse by retraining the muscles of the face and tongue for long-term wellness. Hi, I’m Bernalea Liesse, a dental hygienist with 21 years of experience and the founder of Elite Myofunctional Therapy. After discovering that my own family—and even I—had been living with undiagnosed orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs), everything changed. Our journey opened my eyes and fueled my passion to help others find answers sooner. No one should have to suffer in silence or wait years for relief. Now, I dedicate my work to guiding families and individuals toward better breathing, improved sleep, and lasting wellness—naturally.

Your lips do a lot more than smile! 💋
They play an important role in speaking, eating, drinking, swallowing, and oral rest posture. Throughout the day, your lips are constantly coordinating with your tongue, jaw, and other facial muscles to help everyday oral functions happen smoothly.
Myofunctional therapy looks at how all of these muscles work together—because healthy oral function really is a team effort.

Your tongue needs more than just movement to function efficiently! 👅
Mobility, coordination, and control all work together during everyday activities like speaking, chewing, and swallowing.
Being able to move the tongue is one piece of the puzzle—but being able to move it where you want, when you want, without unnecessary help from other muscles is important too.
Myofunctional therapy looks at these patterns and helps improve how the tongue and surrounding muscles work together.

Consider this your notification to check your jaw! 🔔
When your mouth is resting, your teeth generally shouldn’t be clenched together. If you catch yourself tightening your jaw or holding your teeth together throughout the day, take a moment to release that tension and let those muscles relax.
Little check-ins like this can help you become more aware of habits you may not even realize you’re doing.
So… are your teeth touching right now? 👀

Which do you notice more—jaw discomfort while chewing or after talking for a while?
Your jaw is working throughout the day, whether you’re eating, chatting, laughing, or yawning. If you regularly notice soreness, fatigue, tightness, or discomfort during these activities, it may be worth paying attention to how your jaw is functioning.
Everyone’s symptoms can look a little different, so we want to hear from you: Chewing or talking—which one does your jaw notice more? 👀

Ever catch yourself searching, “Why does my jaw do that?” 👀
Clicking, popping, or grinding sounds can happen during movements like opening your mouth, chewing, or yawning. Jaw sounds alone don’t necessarily mean something is wrong, but they’re worth paying attention to—especially if they’re accompanied by pain, locking, stiffness, or limited movement.
Your TMJs are complex little joints, and how they move matters just as much as the sounds they make.

Swallowing may feel automatic, but there’s a lot happening behind the scenes!
Your tongue, lips, throat, and surrounding muscles work together in a coordinated sequence to safely and efficiently move food and liquid from your mouth.
In myofunctional therapy, we look closely at these movement patterns and how the oral muscles are working together during everyday functions like eating and swallowing.
Something you do all day without thinking about it actually takes quite a bit of teamwork!

Did you know your tongue has an important connection to a tiny bone in your neck? 👅
Meet the hyoid bone! Unlike most bones in the body, the hyoid doesn’t directly form a joint with another bone. Instead, it’s supported by muscles and ligaments and provides attachment points for muscles involved in tongue movement, swallowing, and speech.
It may be small, but it plays an important role in the way your mouth and throat function together every day.

Do you ever wake up with a sore, tight, or tired jaw?
Morning jaw discomfort can sometimes be associated with nighttime clenching or grinding, muscle tension, or other factors affecting the jaw while you sleep.
If it happens frequently, it’s worth paying attention to—especially if you also notice headaches, tooth sensitivity, clicking, or jaw stiffness.
So, question of the day: How does your jaw feel when you wake up? 👀

Your everyday habits may be affecting your jaw more than you realize.
Clenching, frequent gum chewing, nail biting, resting your chin on your hand, chewing on pens, or consistently favoring one side while eating can all place extra demand on the jaw and surrounding muscles.
You don’t have to obsess over every little movement—the goal is simply to notice your patterns. Becoming more aware of repetitive habits can be an important first step toward reducing unnecessary jaw strain.
Which one are you guilty of? 👀
