World Doula Week 🀎✨

Being a doula is such a big part of my lifeβ€”but it’s not the only part of me.

I’m a wife.

I’m a mother.

I’m a doula 195 births & counting and a doula business owner hey πŸ‘‹πŸΎ

I’m a New Yorker πŸ—½πŸŽ.

I’m a public speaker 🎀

I’m a lover of carnival, dance, and musicβ€”the kind that moves your soul and your feet.

I’m an avid momcationerβ€”because sometimes the best way to reset is traveling without the hubby or kids ✈️✨

I’m 40+, strong, and in the gym lifting heavy (because they tell me it’s good for my health… but let’s be honest, I actually enjoy it now πŸ’ͺ🏾).

I’m someone who believes in showing up fullyβ€”in birth spaces, in my community and in my everyday life. The same strength, care, and energy I bring to my clients is the same energy I pour into my family, my passions, and myself.

This World Doula Week, I’m honoring the workβ€”and the women behind it all on the Here for You Doulas Team.

Because we are more than doulas… and every part of us makes us better doulas 🀎

This year's personal birth numbers look different from the last two years. My personal highlight of the year was supporting EIGHT repeat clients. Including my 1st 3peat client.Β  At this point we are family. Proud doula πŸ₯°. Thank you for inviting me to your birth space again and again. It is truly an honor.Β

I also took a step back from births to support families in a different way. What I didn't do in actual births I did in boss moves. πŸ’…πŸ½ I lead my doula company, through a series of firsts. For that I am beyond proud. While you may not catch me posting a stat personally attending 40+ plus in a year (yeah we aren't doing that again) you will see more families supported through the combined effort of the Here for You Doula team. When I say we take care of ourselves so we can take care of our clients I absolutely mean it. πŸ’ž

Here's to next year and more families, more babies more moms supported in the best way possible. πŸ₯‚

5 years. One crown. Still standing, still blossoming. Just like birth, this journey has taught me patience, surrender, and trust. My locs have held space with me through many births, late nights, early mornings, and sacred moments with families. As they grow, I grow.

Rooted. Grounded. Evolving.

It's a complex yet convenient relationship. Low maintenence but I'd be fibbing if sometimes I didn't miss my loose natual hair. Never be surprised because I don't know what the future holds sometimes a cute tapered catches my eye πŸ˜‰. Yet nothing beats late night or multiday births or post gym hair that doesn't look like what I've been through 🀣 The loc'ed experience. It's my 5th lociversary!! 😍

To the families who have endured this emotion, situation & grief I see you. I pray you didn't have to walk the grief path in silence & if you did I pray that one day if / when you are ready to break your silence you have a person or persons to do it to.

Your babies are far from forgotten in your hearts. And yet some loved ones may not know how to address you during this period. It is my hope that this little reel can be used as a frame of reference for those who want to help but don't know how. Either in the immediate postpartum period or months / years after.

To my angel doula babies:
Ella Marie πŸ¦‹
Isabella R. πŸ¦‹
Baby Glenn πŸ¦‹
Baby Carter πŸ¦‹

You have made me a better doula and deepened my calling in ways I never could have imagined. You are loved deeply & missed dearly.

Welcome to Black Breastfeeding Week. A week where we celebrate the beauty of feeding our children with our body. Where we talk about the challenges and the obstacles we had during the journey and tips and tricks that got us over the hump.

My story. My son and I were off to a rough start. Shredded ni***es, low milk supply and that round the clock feeding was for the birds. Crazy how you go from a 56 hour labor to having the responsibility of keeping a tiny human alive with your chest 😬πŸ€ͺ

If it wasn't for my midwife I'm not sure how my lactation journey would have panned out. She checked on baby and ME. Making sure we were both okay. I was NOT OK my vag and nips were from birth & nursing. It was not pretty. My midwife told me to start pumping after every feed. That needed to stimulate my breasts to ask it for more milk and I needed to supplement with that pumped milk to feed my son bc at the moment he was not getting enough. So started my journey to pump. We started out in mL bottles and I was so proud of my out put and graduated to ounces. Which eventually lead to a freezer full. Not because I was an over supplier but bc pumping was one of the few things I could control as a new mother. That I kind of became obsessed with it. I became a milk hoarder. Pumping and only using the least amount of milk pumped. If my son & I were together he was getting it straight from the tap. Looking back there were signs of postpartum anxiety there. At the time I never knew it was a thing. We, baby boy & I went on to nurse for 20 months. The final battle being how to get him off the breast. More on that later 😊.

During this nursing session I was celebrating 6 months of exclusively breastfeeding. Me & my little ham. HAPPY BLACK BREASTFEEDING WEEK πŸ€ŽπŸ€±πŸΎπŸ–€πŸ€±πŸΏβ€οΈπŸ€±πŸ½

March 18th is Edwards Syndrome Day πŸ’™πŸ•ŠοΈ
Last year I had the privilege of supporting a family as they prepared to welcome their child, knowing their little one would be born with this condition. Watching them navigate this journey with so much love and determination was nothing short of humbling.

As a mother, I felt their story in my heartβ€”it was impossible not to. Seeing the way they pushed forward, balancing hope and heartbreak, reminded me just how deep a mother’s love runs. Even in the hardest moments, that love never fades.

To every family walking this path, my heart is with you. Your love, your strength, your journeyβ€”it all matters. Today, we honor you πŸ€πŸ’™!
