“I know you work a lot with teens and young adults, but do you have experience with…”

I get asked this all the time! And the short answer is: yes- I love working with a variety of clients and struggles! While a lot of my content centers around teens and anxiety, my clinical background over the last 10+ years is broad. I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside many different people navigating many different seasons of life.

Here are just a few other areas I support clients in:
▶️ Postpartum Anxiety & Depression
▶️ Chronic Illness
▶️ Grief & Loss
▶️ Men’s Issues
▶️Bipolar Disorder

Not a teen, but feel like our personalities might click? I’d love to connect. I believe genuine connection is the most important part of therapy. If I’m a great fit for what you’re navigating, we’ll dive right in with evidence-based tools tailored to support you. And if your specific struggle turns out to be outside my wheelhouse, I’ll let you know and connect you with a trusted colleague who specializes in exactly what you need.

For decades, ADHD was primarily diagnosed in boys who showed clear physical hyperactivity. But in girls, ADHD often looks completely different. Instead of acting out, their hyperactivity is turned inward.
Because their symptoms don't fit the traditional mold, many girls spend years flying under the radar, quietly internalizing their struggle as a personal failure.

Here are 5 overlooked characteristics of ADHD in girls:

1. Hyperfixation (instead of obvious distraction). They might struggle to focus on homework they find uninteresting, but spend 5 straight hours intensely focused on a specific creative project, book series, or digital habit. It’s not a lack of focus, it’s a difficulty regulating where that focus goes.

2. Friendship struggles that look like “being too sensitive.” Girls with ADHD often experience Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD). Minor social misunderstandings or a friend’s subtle shift in tone can feel like a devastating emotional rejection, leading to big emotional meltdowns at home over seemingly "small" things.

3. Masking by becoming the "good kid." To compensate for the internal chaos, many girls become perfectionists, hyper-organized, or people-pleasers. They exhaust their entire nervous system all day at school trying to play the part of the "model student," only to completely collapse the second they step through the front door.

4. Believing, "I’m not good enough" When they struggle remembering deadlines, keeping their room tidy, or processing multi-step directions. They don't blame their brain, but instead they blame themselves, growing up with a pervasive belief that they are just lazy, broken, or not good enough.

5. Anxiety becomes the symptom everyone notices first. (This is the big one! 🛑) Because their brain feels like it’s constantly racing to keep up, their body stays in a perpetual state of high-alert. They are often brought to therapy for severe anxiety, panic, or stomach aches, while the underlying ADHD driving that nervous system fatigue goes completely missed.

In therapy, I provide an active, safe space where we drop the mask, validate how exhausting it is to carry all that pressure, and give her practical, real-world tools to work with her brain instead of against it.

If your daughter is quietly carrying this heavy load, she doesn’t have to figure it out alone. 🕊️

Using your out-of-network (OON) benefits for therapy is often much easier and more affordable than people expect.

Here’s how it works:

1. Check your benefits. I’ll help you see if your plan includes OON coverage, what your deductible is, and how much your insurance reimburses after it’s met. (There’s a free, no-obligation benefits checker on my website thanks to Thrizer.)

2. Set up Thrizer. You’ll connect with me, add your insurance information, and choose your preferred payment method.

3. We’ll review everything together. During your intake, we’ll talk through your diagnosis (if applicable), how insurance works, and answer any questions you have. I believe you deserve to understand the process and will help as much as I can.

4. Come to therapy. After each session, I charge your card and Thrizer automatically submits your claim to your insurance.

5. Receive reimbursement. Once you’ve met your out-of-network deductible, you’ll begin receiving reimbursement based on your specific insurance plan.

Insurance can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to figure it out alone. I’ll help you understand your benefits so you can decide what makes the most sense for you, even if that ends up working with another therapist.

We all know how controversial AI is. I think that there are some great uses for it but therapy is not one of them.

The human connection is SO important in this work.

Can you type your symptoms into AI and ask it to use the DSM-5-TR to give you a diagnosis? Sure. Can you ask it for feedback? Sure. Can you ask it to give you a script of what to do/say in your situationship? Sure. But, is that really helping you and your relationships?

In therapy a HUGE part of the work is being honest and human with your therapist and with yourself. AI can do many things… but not that.

I love welcoming new clients into my office to see what this is like. Reach out to see if we could be a good fit to start your work in therapy together!

I get asked all the time about smartphones and dependence on smartphones…

There are clear benefits to your teen having a phone, it is so convenient and so integrated into our world. There are also clear consequences- over dependence, unlimited access to things that can be harmful, fuel for self criticism, etc.

Here’s are some of my responses:

For parents- Ask questions! Why does your teen want a phone? When does it help them? When does it make things harder for them?

For young adults- Get curious! Does screen time get in the way of living? When do you have urges to check your phone? What other resources do you use?

Sometimes we try to go cold turkey, parents take away phones, or young adults white knuckle through their day trying so hard not to check them. Maybe there’s a reason that isn’t working?

Smartphone use getting in the way of your life or your teens? Let’s get curious together! Click the link in my bio to book a free 15-minute consultation today!

It turns out belting out music in your car or room isn’t just a mood, it’s actually a form of nervous system regulation.

While screaming throwback lyrics isn’t a replacement for professional therapy, there is actual brain science behind why it feels so therapeutic when you’re anxious or overwhelmed. Music provides an instant emotional release through the words (putting a voice to feelings you can’t quite articulate), the movement (letting trapped anxiety out physically), and the private expression (venting big emotions without judgment).

In my practice, we don’t just sit in a room, we lean into practical, real-world tools to help you get out of survival mode. If you’re ready for a safe, neutral space to process the heavy stuff, click the link in my bio to book a free 15-minute consultation today!

Hi, I’m Leigh! 👋

I’m a therapist, mom, wife, sister, friend, former dancer, and proud member of the Clear Lake community I grew up in.

For over 10 years, I’ve had the privilege of helping teens, young adults, and adults navigate anxiety, big emotions, life transitions, trauma, and the challenges that come with being human.

My approach blends evidence-based therapy with genuine connection. I love brain science, practical tools, and helping people understand themselves with more compassion and less judgment.

When I’m not in session, you can usually find me spending time with my family, hanging out with friends, cheering on my boys, or taking time to relax by the pool.

And yes, I’ve apparently been described as “low-key fire” by some teen clients, which may be the highest compliment I’ve ever received. 🔥😂

Whether you are a parent looking for a safe, neutral space where your teen feels comfortable opening up, or a young adult trying to find your footing in a world that feels a bit too loud, I’m here to help you navigate it.

If you’re new here, hi! 👋

Sometimes parents come into therapy hoping I’ll “fix” their teen, expecting us to just sit quietly in a room and talk for an hour. But therapy works a little differently than that.

I believe it should be active, collaborative, and tailored to how a teen’s brain actually functions.
Whether we are untangling overwhelming anxiety loops, learning how to stop pushing each other’s buttons at home, or playing a game of Uno to practice handling frustration without a meltdown, every session has a purpose.

Helping teens means creating a private, safe space where their feelings are validated, even the ones that don’t fully make sense yet. It’s about slowing everyone down long enough to hear each other instead of deciding who’s right, and giving them real, practical tools to handle the heavy stuff.

This can feel uncomfortable at first for parents. But over time, this active approach helps teens open up, communicate more clearly, and build much healthier relationships at home.

There’s something special about creating a space with intention.

The past couple weeks, I’ve been filling my new office with the little things that help people feel comfortable the moment they walk through the door: soft blankets, fidgets, cold water, snacks, cozy seating, and pieces of décor that make the room feel calm and welcoming.

Therapy is about more than the conversations we have. It’s about creating a space where you can show up exactly as you are, take a deep breath, and feel safe enough to do the hard work.

I’m so excited to welcome my clients into this space and honored to be part of your journey.

✨ In-person sessions in Clear Lake, TX and virtual sessions available throughout Texas.

Now accepting new clients with more in-person availability, and yes….there are snacks. 😊

When a teen or young adult is constantly reactive, irritable, or angry, it’s easy to look at it as just a “bad attitude.” But underneath that anger is almost always a nervous system that is simply exhausted from trying to keep them safe.

Helping teens means looking past the surface flare-up. When a past stressor or trauma keeps their brain stuck in survival mode, everyday situations start to feel like an actual threat, and anger becomes their shield.
This can be hard to navigate at first at home. But by giving them a private, safe space to validate those heavy feelings and process the root cause, we can help them step out of survival mode. Over time, they can learn to communicate more clearly, lower their defenses, and build healthier, calmer relationships with the family.
