Rachel Tova Winer, Ph.D.

Rachel Tova Winer, Ph.D. I am a clinical psychologist specializing in strength-based and collaborative therapy and social outings for adults, adolescents, and children.

People seek my help when they require a safe, respectful, and non-judgmental professional who is committed to their success. I specialize in treating adults, adolescents, and children who strive to become stronger and healthier under conditions of change, adversity, or uncertainty. We work together in individual, group, couples, and/or family therapy formats. My philosophy is informed by active co

llaboration with you, and observing your treatment goals and needs. Because people adapt throughout our lives, the difficulties we experience often result from our earlier adaptations and styles we develop to help us cope. I encourage self-awareness as the key to behavior change and creating new goals, in addition to the ability to leverage strengths against challenges. Seeking help requires strength and courage. I honor this act by tailoring your individualized care in an attentive, compassionate manner.

Please RSVP and check out the other great resources offered by ADDA-SR. Participants earn 2 CEs if desired.

The upcoming holidays can be experienced as fun for some people some of the time. For many, it's not “the most wonderful time of the year”.

On this day in 2001, I was working as a psychology intern being consoled by inpatients on the psychiatric unit at Ben Taub hospital, momentarily lucid, but perceiving that this had happened to “my city” rather than to us collectively. I had just left New York for Houston. “Never forget” to me is always to remember; it is personal but also unifying, as an admonition to pause, to reflect, to educate, to honor lives lost and tremendous acts of service, sacrifice, and bravery, to evolve, to grieve, to live and to love fully, to serve as a beacon of hope, and as an act of defiance. Remember there still is tremendous suffering and also resilience of the human spirit in the present because of this day. Never forget to connect and not withdraw, and to cultivate your own humanity.

In anticipation of ‘s performance at JapanFest 2025, I offer a flashback to last year’s performance by the same group. The brainchild of the generous and inventive choreographer and dancer , this piece was based on an early 20th century Japanese artwork called Temptation. There are several versions of the story. Nao created this version in the context of this era in Japan. HCDC will be interpreting the work this year, along with Japanese community folk dancers as openers. My OutGoing group loved getting an intimate glimpse at the work, and it was a treat for them to find the dancers and Nao herself so friendly and generous. The spirit of collaboration is alive and well and always living among and ! ❤️

In case you haven’t seen this lovely, deeply affecting movie Bob Trevino Likes It, written and directed by , members of the Reel Therapy and I encourage you to run, don’t walk. If you have seen it, maybe it’s time for a rewatch! Anyone who relates to a connection with chosen family would engage with Bob. This is the first time in 10 years that a film in our weekly film group has inspired us to want to shout it from the rooftops. It’s just that special.

The OutGoing group was started in 2012 as a means toward exploring the world and building social lives with arts and culture, as an alternative to traditional therapies.
