Have you ever heard “restorative yoga” and thought, “isn’t all yoga restorative?”
Restorative yoga is different from other types of yoga in that the focus is not to go deeper into a stretch but to find your most comfortable, relaxed state in a pose through the support of props. This means multiple kinds of props are used (i.e. bolsters, blankets, weighted sandbags, etc.) and multiple of each prop (i.e.two or three bolsters depending on the student and the pose).
Restorative yoga is a great landing place for anyone who is new to yoga asana practice, long-time practitioners who tend to practice more vigorous types of yoga, and everyone in between. Restorative yoga can help with managing chronic fatigue, recovery from physical, mental, and emotional stress, and it will leave you feeling more connected to yourself.
Journey Within hosts two weekly restorative yoga classes on Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:00 PM. Let us know in the comments if you are interested in trying restorative yoga or, if you have tried restorative yoga, what you love about it.
