Tattooing and body piercing can lead to infections, the spread of bloodborne diseases like Hepatitis C, allergic reactions, bleeding, swelling, scarring, and general discomfort. If you have certain medical conditions or a weakened immune system, these risks may be higher. It’s a good idea to talk with your medical provider about any health concerns before getting inked or pierced.

You can also take basic safety steps to protect yourself: make sure the artist is using a clean work area, washing their hands, and wearing gloves; choose a reputable artist and parlor; and make sure all sterile items are new and opened in front of you.

The best way to keep pets safe from rabies is to vaccinate them and keep their shots up to date. Even if it's an "indoor" pet. Although your animal may not go outside, wildlife, like bats, can get inside.

All animal bites and exposures should be reported to Public Health. Call us at 518-746-2400.
