Plateaus happen. They don't mean the medication failed — they usually mean it's time to look at protein, dose timing, or a titration check with your provider. Save this for week 8. ✨

There is also a new, temporary federal program called the Medicare GLP‑1 Bridge that is rolling out nationally, including in Texas. This short‑term program is separate from regular Part D benefits and is designed to give some Medicare beneficiaries limited access to certain GLP‑1 medications specifically for obesity between mid‑2026 and the end of 2027.[cms +1]
To qualify, patients generally must have Medicare Part D, meet body‑mass‑index and clinical criteria, and use specific GLP‑1 drugs that have FDA approval for weight loss. If you qualify, your copay for those medications may be a flat amount, such as around 50 dollars for a 30‑day supply, instead of paying the full cash price.

This is one of the most common mix-ups I see with Medicare patients asking about GLP-1s like Wegovy and Zepbound. A drug can be FDA-approved and still not be covered by your plan because for Medicare, coverage comes down to *why* it's prescribed.

Here's the plain-English version:

🚫 Prescribed for weight loss alone? By law, Medicare Part D can't cover it — you'd pay out of pocket.
✅ Prescribed for a covered medical condition — type 2 diabetes, heart disease, or sleep apnea with obesity? Coverage becomes possible.
❓ Even then, the drug has to be on your plan's drug list, and prior authorization or step therapy may be required first.

And there's something new: starting July 1, 2026, a temporary national program called the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge will offer select obesity GLP-1s (Wegovy, Zepbound & Foundayo) for a flat $50/month copay. It runs through December 2027. To qualify you'll need a Medicare Part D or MA-PD plan, your provider's prior authorization, and a BMI of 35+ — or 27+ with a condition like prediabetes or heart disease.

The takeaway: a "no" from Medicare today isn't a "no" forever. Coverage varies plan to plan, so check your plan's drug list — and when in doubt, call the number on your Medicare card.

This one is purely educational — save it and share it with someone on Medicare who's been asking. Always confirm the details with your specific plan and your healthcare provider.
