🏖️ BEACH SAFETY TIP: KNOW THE DANGER OF RIP CURRENTS 🌊

Many Alabama families will be heading to the beach this summer, and one of the biggest hidden dangers in the ocean is a rip current.

A rip current is a powerful channel of water that can quickly pull swimmers away from shore. Even strong swimmers can get caught off guard.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Tips to keep your kids safe:

✅ Always swim near a lifeguard.
✅ Check beach flags and weather conditions before entering the water.
✅ Keep young children within arm's reach.
✅ Avoid swimming alone.
✅ Teach children to never fight a rip current.

If you are caught in a rip current:

❌ Don't try to swim directly back to shore.
✅ Stay calm and float.
✅ Swim parallel to the shoreline until you escape the current.
✅ Then swim back toward shore at an angle.
✅ Wave and call for help if needed.

The best way to prevent a tragedy is through awareness and preparation. Take a few minutes to discuss water safety with your family before your next beach trip.
