Parent CHECK-IN 💛 How did YOU do this week?
A mom recently shared that she finds herself yelling at her kids in the morning. Part of my response to her was:
Sometimes you become dysregulated, and it comes out verbally. So before we only focus on getting the kids regulated, let’s check in with YOU.
Did you get enough rest?
Did you eat?
Were you rushing?
What was your self-talk sounding like?
Were you already anxious before the morning even got started?
Try humming. Take some deep breaths. Ask the anxious parts of you what they need. Eat a snack. Hug yourself. Hug your babies. Prepare what you can the night before. Wake up 30 minutes earlier if rushing is a trigger. Remind yourself, “Everything is going to be okay. This morning does not have to go perfectly.”
Create routines your kiddos can help with instead of feeling like everything is on you.
And pay attention to how you’re talking to yourself. If your inner voice is critical, impatient, or beating you up, practice replacing it with grace-filled communication.
Sometimes calmer mornings don’t start with changing the kids.
They start with a more regulated YOU. 💛
No judgment—just a check-in. How regulated did YOU feel this week?
