Mustangs for Mental Health

Mustangs for Mental Health Student Led Mental Health Organization. We're a student-led Mental Health Awareness group at Iola High School and members of the Zero Reasons Why movement.

Our goal is to be supportive peers you can talk to - whether you need advice, someone to listen, or a safe place to open up. Together, we're working to end the stigma and make mental health a priority.

๐Ÿ’ฅ SMASH THE STIGMA ๐Ÿ’ฅ

What if we could take the negative messages that so many young people carry around every day and literally smash them?

As part of the Zero Reasons Why Allen County initiative, we're bringing the community together for an evening of racing, connection, and mental health awareness at Humboldt Speedway.

On Friday, June 26, community members will have the opportunity to take a swing at an old vehicle covered in the words and phrases that often fuel mental health stigma and self-doubt. Together, we'll send a powerful message: those thoughts do not define us.

This event is also a Kids Night at Humboldt Speedway, making it a great night for the whole family. Kids will have the opportunity to meet the drivers during intermission, and vendor trucks will be on site throughout the evening.

Whether you're a parent, teen, grandparent, coach, teacher, or community supporter, this event is a chance to stand with local youth and show that mental health matters.

Last night Zero Reasons Why Allen County hosted a Community Mental Health Forum at IHS. Pictured are, Mustangs for Mental Health members, Bristol, Mason, Ramon, Blayke and Jaeden all speaking! 3 of the kiddos had speaking parts, and 2 of them were on a panel answering questions. They did fantastic, and Iโ€™m so proud of their growth this year! Also pictured is our ZRW Coordinator, and school board President, Jen Taylor! Sheโ€™s such a blessing to our district and to SEKMHC/ZRW. As well as our wonderful MS/HS School based therapist, Taelyn Mathews! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

While it wasnโ€™t our event, I would like to thank everyone in the community that attended in support of mental health awareness! Last but certainly not least, thank you to the man behind the event, Travis Buck! Youโ€™re so appreciated! ๐Ÿ’š

Loss can show up in a lot of different ways, and it doesnโ€™t always look the same for everyone.

If youโ€™ve been feeling a little heavier lately, youโ€™re not alone. Itโ€™s okay to take things one day at a time, to give yourself space, and to lean on the people around you.

Check in on your friends. Be kind to yourself. ๐Ÿ’š
