🚑 We just hit a pretty incredible milestone!

Since July 2022, Simulation in Motion Iowa has trained 25,496 people!

When we started this journey, the goal was to bring hands-on simulation training to communities across Iowa and give people the chance to practice, learn, and build confidence in a safe environment. Seeing how far we've come in just a few years is something to be proud of.

Here's who we've had the opportunity to train:

🚑 EMS providers: 17,407

🏥 Nursing providers: 2,719

🎓 EMS and nursing students: 493

🩺 Advanced-level providers and nurse practitioners: 229

💨 Other providers, including respiratory therapists: 416

💙 CNAs: 130

🤝 Non-certified personnel: 4,102

Behind every number is a person who took the time to learn, practice, and prepare for situations they may face in the real world. That's what makes this work matter.

We couldn't have reached this milestone without the educators, agencies, hospitals, communities, partners, and supporters who have welcomed us and helped make SIM-IOWA what it is today. Thank you for being part of this journey!

A big thank you to the Iowa City Bike Library for lending us a couple of bicycles to help stage several of our cycling injury simulation scenarios during our pre-RAGBRAI tour! 🚲

Those bikes helped bring the scenes to life, giving first responders and healthcare teams an even more realistic training experience.

Our final stop on the 2026 pre-RAGBRAI tour brought us to Independence, where we had the opportunity to train alongside the outstanding team at Buchanan County EMS and City of Independence Iowa, Fire Department.

Now that the tour has wrapped up, we can finally reveal this year's scenario!

Working with CARE Ambulance, LLC - Iowa City to review injury trends from previous RAGBRAI rides, we learned that when one cyclist crashes, it's often not just one patient....multiple riders can go down in the same incident.

To better prepare responders for that reality, we created a mass casualty-style scenario featuring two patient simulators and two live patients in a single scene. Participants had to rapidly assess the situation, triage patients, and make critical decisions about who needed care first. 🚑🚴

As RAGBRAI cyclists wheel into Marshalltown today, they've got a safety net most riders never think about.

Just last week, Marshalltown Fire Department and UnityPoint Health - Marshalltown trained alongside SIM-IA to practice treating cycling-related injuries, so they're ready for anything the road throws at riders.

The sixth stop of our 2026 pre-RAGBRAI training series brought us to Boone! 🚴‍♀️🏥 As thousands of riders prepare to hit the road for the largest recreational bicycle touring event in the world, our hospital partners across the state are gearing up too. 💪 On Tuesday, our Central Iowa simulation truck and crew brought specialized, hands-on education to help healthcare teams at Boone County Hospital sharpen their skills in treating cycling-related injuries.

Hey, RAGBRAI fans! 🚴‍♀️ We're heading to Onawa this Saturday, July 18, to take part in the Day 0 Expo alongside the University of Iowa and Stead Family Children's Hospital. 💛

Starting at noon, come see us along Main Street, grab some Hawkeye swag, and learn how SIM-IA prepared public safety crews for the big ride!
