Rodeo Day Fuel🏆

You wouldn’t expect your horse to perform on poor-quality fuel.
Don’t expect your body to either.

Many riders unknowingly start their day under-fueled and dehydrated, then wonder why they
feel tired, unfocused, or anxious before competing.

A well-fueled rider can make better decisions and stay focused under pressure.
Fuel your body like an athlete.

Yesterday, we shared a few tips for staying healthy on the road as rodeo athletes. Today, we’re shifting our focus to our equine partners.

Here are a few simple tips to help keep your horse healthy, hydrated, and feeling their best during travel and competition season.

🐴 Protect their legs when appropriate for travel
🐴 Make sure they have access to plenty of quality hay and clean water
🐴 Monitor hydration and appetite
🐴 Check their eyes, ears, breathing, and tail daily
🐴 Walk them whenever possible during long travel days

A healthy horse and a healthy rider make a stronger team.

When you’re traveling from one rodeo to the next, your body can take a beating.

Good sleep is rare. Good nutrition can be hard to come by. Long hours in the truck, changing
schedules, and the stress of competition can leave you feeling run-down before you ever back
into the box.

And we haven’t even hit the grueling 4th of July weekend yet.

Here are a few simple ways to support your health while you’re on the road:

💧 Hydrate
- Drink water before coffee
- Carry a refillable water bottle
- Add electrolytes when it’s hot or you’re sweating heavily
- Aim to sip water throughout the day rather than chugging it all at once

🥗 Support Gut Health
- Pack a quality probiotic
- Include prebiotic foods when possible
- Keep activated charcoal on hand for occasional digestive support
- Prioritize protein and whole foods over convenience snacks // https://peopleschoicebeefjerky.com

🚶 Move During Rest Stops
- Walk for 5-10 minutes
- Stretch your hips, calves, and shoulders
- Take a few deep breaths
- Choose movement over scrolling

Remember, recovery starts before you’re exhausted.

Horse & Rider Summer Wellness Series 🐴🤠

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite tips, tools, and practical
strategies to help horse and riders stay healthy, recover faster, and perform their best while
traveling, competing, and spending long days on the road.

Whether you’re headed to rodeos, jackpots, horse shows, trail rides, or spending weekends
hauling from one event to the next, it’s easy to get run down when sleep, nutrition, hydration,
and recovery take a back seat.

We’ll be covering topics like:
💧 Staying hydrated on the road
🥩 Rodeo day nutrition and fueling your body
🦠 Supporting gut health while traveling
🚶 Movement and recovery during long hauls
🫁 The Big Six Lymph Moves
🕸 Fascia, flexibility, and mobility
😌 Mental toughness and staying focused under pressure
🐴 Horse wellness and recovery tips
💡 Simple tools you can use at home, in the trailer, or at the arena

My goal is to provide practical, easy-to-implement ideas that support both the horse and the
rider because the best teams take care of both ends of the lead rope.

Follow along, share with your rodeo friends, and let me know what topics you’d like me to cover!

If you rodeo, you know you need mental toughness. You can be on top of the world one minute
and literally a second later, at the bottom of the barrel.

We all know we need it, but what is it exactly?
Mental toughness is learning how to regulate your mind, emotions, and body when pressure,
stress, fear, frustration, or uncertainty show up.

👉In the horse world, we often focus heavily on physical training, but the mental and emotional
side of performance matters just as much.

If you don’t know what you are in control of, you can spiral down, fast.
The conditions, the draws, the rumblings among the other competitors - this is what you need to
have a plan for.
If you’re anxious, your horse can feel it too.

On the flipside, when you prepare mentally, learn how to breathe and visualize the experience,
or break down your run using key words, you will improve the outcome, and your enjoyment of
the performance.

If you allow yourself to enjoy it, you’re going to want to compete more.

Here’s what you need to know: every person is different, just like every horse is different.

What we do inside Horse and Rider is figure out your customized protocol for mental toughness.

You’ll learn how to prep for your competition, and reflect on the outcome so that you can build
your confidence even when your runs don’t go as planned.

You’ll learn how to:
✔ Stay present under pressure
✔ Recover after mistakes
✔ Build confidence after setbacks
✔ Control breathing and nervous system response
✔ Improve focus and emotional awareness
✔ Stay connected instead of reactive
✔ Learn to trust yourself and your horse

The strongest riders are not always the loudest or toughest looking… they’re the ones who learn
how to stay calm, connected, adapt, and stay grounded when things don’t go perfectly.

Because confidence is not the absence of fear.
It’s learning how to move through it.
And horses teach us that every single day.

To learn more, send me a message, and we can start working on your mental toughness plan.

✨ 𝑵𝒖𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 ✨

Performance starts long before the arena.
It starts with how the body is fueled, supported, and able to function.

Knead It or Knot takes a whole-body approach to nutrition for the horse, rider, and individual—because no two bodies are the same. From whole food nutrition and hydration to biofeedback, kinesiology, the goal is simple: help the body work more efficiently so it can recover, perform, and feel its best.

Performance is about helping the body use what it already has!
