FMOL Health | St. Dominic recently participated in two special events at the Mississippi State Fair: Disability Friendly Day on Oct. 13 and Senior American Day on Oct. 14. During both events, team members provided blood pressure screenings and shared educational resources with attendees, offering practical health information while connecting directly with community members from across Mississippi.

These events create opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the fair while engaging with organizations that support their health, well-being and quality of life. Our partnership with the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce and the Mississippi State Fair continues to strengthen our ability to meet people where they are, extending our mission beyond the walls of our facilities and into the communities we serve every day.

Thank you to the many fairgoers who stopped by for a screening, health information or simply a conversation. Together, we are helping build healthier communities across Mississippi.

Meet nurse practitioner Paula Bland, a member of the primary care team at Health | St. Dominic.

Paula brings years of experience caring for adults in the clinic, at home and during transitions from the hospital. She provides preventive care, manages acute and chronic conditions and helps patients better understand their health so they can make informed decisions about their care.

FMOL Health | St. Dominic is proud to recognize Joyce Hargrave, RN, 3 East, as our most recent DAISY Award recipient. The DAISY Award is an international program that honors nurses who consistently demonstrate extraordinary clinical skill, compassion, and dedication to patient care.

Joyce was nominated by the son of a patient who was facing both the emotional and practical challenges of caring for his father during a terminal cancer diagnosis. Living out of state and traveling to Mississippi to support his father created significant personal and financial hardships, but Joyce's compassion helped ease that burden in ways the family will never forget.

In his nomination, the patient's son shared that Joyce consistently encouraged him to care for himself while remaining at his father's bedside. “On one particularly difficult day, she saw that I had lost some weight during the week and without any comment or prompting, had soup and a sandwich delivered to the room for me to eat. I have never experienced such a selfless act of kindness of consideration. One day, I will be in an old man in a hospital bed, unable to move and barely able to eat, and I pray that I have a nurse like this Joyce to care for me."

Joyce's actions exemplify the values of compassionate care that define St. Dominic's nursing team. Please join us in congratulating Joyce on this well-deserved recognition and thanking her for the exceptional care she provides to our patients, families and fellow team members each day.

We are dedicated to supporting our community through a wide range of outreach and engagement efforts. For the second year now, we had the privilege of serving the civil servants of the Mississippi Attorney General’s office at their office-wide gathering and health fair.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Attorney General Lynn Fitch and her team for inviting us to their “All Staff” meeting, where we provided health screenings, shared valuable informational resources, distributed swag items, and fostered partnership with our social workers for greater community resource-sharing.
