Welcome to the Lands of Colquhoun Project! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿📜

Are you ready to dig up some history — and maybe a few ancestors who have been hiding in the wrong spelling for 400 years? 😂

We are searching for Colquhoun, Calhoun, Cahoon, Cahoone, Colhoun, Colquhon, and every wild spelling in between.

This project is about finding the branches, connecting the cousins, following the records, and bringing the whole Colquhoun story back into the light.

So now I want to know…

Who has a Colquhoun branch hiding somewhere back in your roots?

Drop your spelling, your oldest known ancestor, or your mystery branch in the comments. Your line might be one of the puzzle pieces we’ve been looking for.

HEAR YE, HEAR YE, good people of Facebook land! 📜🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The Lands of Colquhoun: All Branches Project is officially searching far and wide for our kin — Colquhoun, Calhoun, Cahoone, Colhoun, Colquon, Cahoon, and every spelling variation that got twisted, softened, misspelled, or absolutely butchered by a tired clerk with a quill and bad lighting.

We are looking under every stone, in every nook, cranny, dusty Bible page, old deed, family story, charter, DNA match, and mystery branch we can find.

Because let’s be honest…

Somewhere back there, somebody has a Colquhoun granny hiding in the tree, probably wearing a tartan shawl, judging everyone’s spelling, and whispering, “You finally found me, did ye?” 😂

Our goal is to help map all Colquhoun-related branches back to the old Lands of Colquhoun in the Lennox, where the name still stands strong.

This is not just about one spelling.
It is not just about one Y-DNA line.
It is not just about one family story.

It is about many branches, many migrations, many mysteries — and one shared mission to uncover the truth.

So if you have a Colquhoun, Calhoun, Cahoone, Cahoon, Colhoun, or any cousin-spelling hiding in your family tree…

Come join us. Bring your line. Bring your story. Bring your DNA if you have it.

And bring snacks. Genealogy gets dramatic. 🍿

**One name. Many branches. One heritage.

One family by land, blood & bond ❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Welcome to the Lands of Colquhoun: All Branches Project

This project is about more than one surname. It is about the lands, the charters, the DNA, the families, and the many branches that have carried the names Colquhoun, Calhoun, Cahoone, Colhoun, Colquhon, and every spelling in between across centuries.

For generations, many lines have been grouped together, separated, misunderstood, or handed stories that may only tell part of the truth.

Many families with variant spellings can trace their roots back to the old Lands of Colquhoun in the Lennox.

Others may discover their connection is not exactly where tradition placed it.

That is where the real work begins.

In this project, we will be diving deeper into the multiple R-M269 Calhoun / Colquhoun-related paternal lines whose roots remain unclear.

We are also comparing them alongside the documented medieval Colquhoun lines, charter evidence, autosomal DNA, Y-DNA, and the wider history of the Lennox.

This journey will not be simple.

It may stir up emotion. Some lines will go exactly where families were told they belonged. Some will not. Some will open doors to even greater mysteries.

That is not a failure — that is research doing what research is supposed to do.

We are not here to tear down William Fraser, Crossley, or the many researchers who came before us.

Their work gave us a foundation. But they did not have Big Y testing.

They did not have autosomal triangulation.

They did not have modern databases.

They did not have the ability to compare living descendants across dozens of branches.

We do.

So our goal is not to erase the old work. Our goal is to build on it, test it, correct where needed, and add what could not have been known hundreds of years ago.

Inside this project, I have been tracking no fewer than ten separate paternal lines tied in some way to the broader Colquhoun / Calhoun / Cahoone story. Some are closely related. Some are not. Some of the R-M269 Calhoun testers appear to match each other much farther back than expected — not a close recent connection, but possibly hundreds of years deeper, even approaching an 800-year horizon.

That changes the conversation.

Because this is not just one Y-DNA line.

It is many lines.

And our connection is not only blood. It is also land, history, migration, records, bonds, charters, and the shared search for where we truly belong.

The Lands of Colquhoun: All Branches Project is here to ask hard questions, follow the evidence, and bring the branches back into the light.

One land. Many lines. One shared history to uncover.

Welcome to The Lands of Colquhoun: All Branches Project.

Let me weave you a tale…

A tale of lands, bloodlines, tenants, cadets, septs, manrents, migrations, and the many surnames that grew from one historic place.

This page is for Colquhoun, Calhoun, Colhoun, Cahoone, Calhoon, Colhoon, and every allied branch connected to the wider Colquhoun story.

Not every branch carries the same Y-DNA — and that’s okay.

Some connect through blood.
Some through land.
Some through service, marriage, migration, or history.

But every branch matters.

Here, we will organize the records, charters, seals, witness lists, DNA clues, and old forgotten documents that help tell the bigger story.

Different Y-DNA. Shared History. Every Branch Matters.

Welcome to the journey.

Welcome to The Lands of Colquhoun: All Branches Project.

This page was created for every branch connected to the wider Colquhoun story — Colquhoun, Calhoun, Colhoun, Cahoone, Calhoon, Colhoon, septs, and allied families whose history may connect through land, tenants, cadets, septs, manrents, marriage, migration, service, records, or DNA.

Not every branch carries the same Y-DNA.

But every branch matters.

Our goal is to organize what we have already collected and continue adding to the story through new documents, old charters, witness lists, seals, land records, migration trails, sept connections, and Y-DNA research.

This project is about bringing the scattered pieces together so we can better understand how the many Colquhoun-connected branches truly fit.

We are also spotlighting our sister page:

Medieval House of Colquhoun Prior to 1718

That page focuses specifically on the old E-M35 paternal line of the early Chiefs/Lairds of Colquhoun, beginning with Umfridus de Kilpatrick, 1st of Colquhoun, and following the chiefly bloodline and its cadet branches prior to the 1718 succession through Anne Colquhoun of Luss.

Together, these sister pages have two different missions, but one shared heart:

Medieval House of Colquhoun follows the old chiefly line.
The Lands of Colquhoun welcomes the wider family world — branches, cadets, septs, tenants, allies, and every spelling variation tied to the land.

One land.
Many surnames.
Many branches.
One shared history.

Welcome to the journey.

Different Y-DNA. Shared History. Every Branch Matters.
