Happy Monday!!

I’d like to highlight an under diagnosed condition today…lipedema.

Nope, it’s not spelled incorrectly. I’m not talking about lymphedema. Lipedema is a distinct condition that isn’t well known but many people suffer from.

From the Lipedema Foundation:

“Lipedema is a chronic condition that occurs almost exclusively in women, causing bilateral, symmetrical buildup of painful fat in the legs, arms, and sometimes the lower trunk. Often confused with obesity or lymphedema, Lipedema is a distinct medical condition that remains widely underdiagnosed.

Common lipedema symptoms include pain, tenderness, swelling, easy bruising, and a nodular texture beneath the skin that may feel like rice, peas, or walnuts. Lipedema typically starts or worsens during times of hormonal change such as puberty, pregnancy, or menopause.”

As a physician that loves treating obesity, this has become one of my passions to treat as well.

Yesterday a dear patient asked me about loss and it got me pondering on grief.

So here’s your friendly neighborhood family doctor reminding you that grief is not a problem to be solved. It’s not a thing to get over and tuck away. It’s a journey we traverse…and it’s so much easier if we do it together. ❤️

Sometimes when I’m at the office alone I sit in the waiting room to work just because it’s cute. 🥰 (Shout out to orderandcompany for all of their help in moving me in!)

As I sit here today, I’m feeling thankful. Thankful that I have the opportunity to have the practice I do. One of my favorite things about direct care is that the slower pace allows for more than quick visits and medicine…both of which have their place! But it also allows time for FRIENDSHIP. I’m so thankful for it and truly feel it is its own kind of medicine (and not just for my patients…for me too!).

🌿 The Science of Gratitude: It’s Good for Your Health!

Did you know that feeling thankful isn’t just good for your mood — it’s good for your body too?

Research shows that regularly practicing gratitude can:
❤️ Lower blood pressure and reduce stress hormones like cortisol
😴 Improve sleep quality — grateful people fall asleep faster and wake up feeling more rested
🧠 Support mental health by reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression
💪 Strengthen your immune system through lower inflammation levels
🤝 Improve relationships — one of the strongest predictors of long-term health

The best part? It doesn’t take much. Even just a few minutes a day of writing down what you’re grateful for can make a measurable difference over time. In our house, we take time to share the things we’re thankful for out loud. ❤️

Try this tonight: Before bed, jot down 3 things you’re thankful for — big or small. Your heart (literally) will thank you.

At Ponte Vedra Family Medicine, we believe good health goes beyond prescriptions. It’s about caring for the whole person — body, mind, and spirit.

What are YOU grateful for today? Share in the comments! 👇

I’m thankful for dear friends...and seeing them soon!!! 🥰

Your mind deserves care too.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month — and for us, that means more than a ribbon or a hashtag. It’s a reminder that mental health is health, full stop.

So many of us carry more than we let on. The quiet weight of anxiety, the fog of depression, the stress we keep telling ourselves we’ll deal with later. If any of that sounds familiar, please know: you are not alone, and there is no shame in asking for help.

Taking care of your mental health is one of the most courageous things you can do — for yourself and for the people you love.

As your family medicine team, we’re here for the whole you — not just the physical. Whether you’re navigating something difficult right now, or you simply want to talk through how you’ve been feeling, our door is open.

If you’d like to talk, reach out to schedule a visit. You don’t have to have it all figured out before you call — that’s what we’re here for.

🦻 Nobody warned me about THIS (peri)menopause symptom…

Itchy ears. Yes, really. Dropping estrogen means drier mucous membranes everywhere — including your ear canals. The same hormonal shift causing dry skin and hot flashes can leave your ears feeling like they’re lined with sandpaper.

You’re not imagining it. You’re not losing it. You’re just in the club nobody talks about enough. 💪

Today was a hard day: it was Emily’s last day physically in the office with me. 😭 I am so excited for the adventures ahead of her but would be lying if I said it was easy to let her go.

I don’t know if I could have opened the practice without her…but I DO know the Lord blessed me with her to make it SO much easier. ❤️🙏

Fortunately for me, she will still be helping me from a distance for a while. 🎉

Safe travels and many blessings to you, friend! You will be GREATLY missed! 🥰
