Mobility Worldwide

Mobility Worldwide Our mission is to empower people with the freedom of mobility, enhancing their quality of life, independence, and ability to participate in their communities.

We’ve spent the past 30+ years developing, producing, and distributing our Mobility Carts. PET International envisions a ten-fold increase in PET production and distribution by 2015.

Meet Ted M., one of our 2026 Jo Ann Shore Scholarship recipients.

Ted is a mechanical engineering student at Texas A&M University who enjoys playing soccer, working out, photography, and reading. For the past two years, he has volunteered with Mobility Worldwide in Brazos Valley, helping build Mobility Carts that provide independence and mobility to people around the world.

Now, Ted is preparing for a new experience as he travels to Zambia through the JAS Scholarship Program.

“I am so grateful for all the wonderful experiences I’ve had in the shop, and for this upcoming experience far from home. I’m looking forward to helping impact the lives of those who need carts and seeing the smiles on hundreds of beautiful faces.”

We look forward to sharing more from Ted’s journey to Zambia this August.

Sahr has had polio since he was five years old. For nearly six decades, he has never let it define what he’s capable of.

He taught himself to sew. Built a tailoring business. He kept going.

This week, he received a Mobility Cart in Koidu City, Sierra Leone. Soon he’ll also receive a sewing machine!

This was made possible by donors like you and our partners and volunteers.

At 28 years old, Michael is determined to keep doing what he loves: working as a mechanic.

Two years ago, Michael traveled to the mining area outside Koidu City hoping to earn enough money to invest in his trade. While there, he was caught in a mudslide and suffered a severe injury that led to the amputation of his right leg below the knee.

That accident changed his life. Getting to his workshop became difficult and expensive.

But this past week, he got a mobility cart.

Now, he can travel to his workshop each day and continue working.

At 11 years old, Zainab dreams of learning and building a future through education.

But after contracting polio at age five, The cost of transportation meant she could not attend classes regularly.

That changed when Zainab received a Mobility Cart in Koidu City, Sierra Leone.

Now, she goes to school every day.

A framed reminder of how it all began.

In 1994, missionary Larry Hills shared a need he witnessed in Africa: people disabled by polio and landmines had no practical way to move across rough terrain. Together with Rev. Mel West and product designer Earl Miner, that need became a mission and eventually a movement that has restored mobility to thousands around the world.

This frame hangs in the Penney Farms shop, honoring the three men whose faith, compassion, and ingenuity helped launch what was then known as the PET Mobility Project.

Today, volunteers continue building Mobility Carts, honoring the legacy these men began more than 30 years ago.

Delivery day in Kono, Sierra Leone!

Through the efforts of Mobility Worldwide - Sierra Leone and dedicated partners, 60 mobility devices were distributed to individuals and families who have been waiting for the opportunity to move more independently.

This distribution included 20 wheelchairs, 20 Mobility Carts, 10 armpit crutches, and 10 elbow crutches.

We are grateful for the longstanding partnership of VRDUR Foundation and for the Mobility Carts provided by Mobility Worldwide - Columbia, MO, which helped make this distribution possible.
