Diet Resolution Week generally falls from January 1st to January 7th, however many find it more convenient to start their resolutions/goals beginning on Monday of the first full week of the year. We like to think of this time of year as more of a reminder than a resolution. It is the perfect time to make changes to our diet and eat healthier to improve our overall physical health and mental wellbeing.
What is a good diet plan?
A good diet plan is one that is balanced and includes vegetables, fruits, meat, dairy, grains, and nuts.
How should I begin a diet?
The best way to begin a diet is by preparing your food. You should be aware of the different components going into your meal and be strategic when it comes to portion control.
How long should I follow diet?
Following a healthy and balanced diet should be a lifelong goal; however, if you are interested in dieting for weight loss, it could take up to 10 weeks before you see results.
Here are some tips to reaching our dieting goals:
• Take the first step – The first step is the hardest. Begin by changing one part of your diet and continue with changes over time.
• Find a diet that suits you - There are many diets available on the internet. Do your research and pick one that is most beneficial and suitable for you. Remember, what works for one might not work for another.
• Set a realistic goal - Aim to lose 1-2 pounds a week over the long term. Losing 5% of your total body weight is a good goal to start with.
• Stick to the diet - Too many cheat days can become a cheat month and then eventually a cheat year.
• Get active, stay active – While you can lose weight without exercise, it is much harder to do. Any extra movement burns calories. Try to work up to 30 minutes of exercise at least 3-4 days a week.
