As temperatures rise this summer, staying hydrated is one of the simplest ways to stay safe.

Don’t wait until you feel thirsty to drink water. Spending time outdoors, exercising, working in the heat, or even attending summer events can quickly lead to dehydration. Make it a habit to drink water throughout the day, take breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and check on children, older adults, and pets who are more vulnerable to heat-related illness.

Signs of dehydration can include headache, dizziness, fatigue, dry mouth, and dark-colored urine. If you begin feeling overheated, move to a cooler location and start rehydrating immediately.

This summer, make water your go-to drink and help keep yourself and your family safe.

Stay hydrated. Stay cool. Stay safe.

🌡️ Extreme Heat Safety Tips 🌡️

Hot weather can be more than uncomfortable—it can be dangerous. When temperatures rise, take steps to protect yourself, your family, and your pets.

☀️ Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty.

🏠 Stay cool in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible. Limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, typically between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

👕 Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and use sunscreen when outdoors.

🚗 Never leave children, pets, older adults, or anyone else in a parked vehicle. Temperatures inside a vehicle can become deadly within minutes.

👵 Check on older adults, young children, people with medical conditions, and neighbors who may need extra assistance during hot weather.

🐾 Make sure pets have access to fresh water and shade, and avoid walking them on hot pavement.

⚠️ Know the signs of heat-related illness:
• Heat exhaustion: heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea
• Heat stroke: confusion, loss of consciousness, hot dry skin, or a body temperature above 103°F

If you suspect heat stroke, call 911 immediately.

Stay safe, stay hydrated, and stay cool!
