Oversupply is more common than you’d think, and it can bring its own set of challenges for both mom and baby. Fast flow, leaking, swelling, or a baby who’s coughing at the breast can all be signs.

The good news is that oversupply is manageable with the right support. If this sounds familiar, you don’t have to figure it out alone! 💜 Visit growingbyplay.com to reach out.

Rest posture is doing more work than most people realize. 👄

When the lips are closed and the tongue rests suctioned to the roof of the mouth (not just sitting on the floor of the mouth), it supports nasal breathing, helps regulate the nervous system, contributes to deeper, more restorative sleep, and plays a role in shaping the palate as it develops.

🌟 One cueing tip we used in this session: instead of pressing on the chin or jaw to encourage mouth closure, try gentle pressure under the tongue. This gives more direct, accurate feedback for where the tongue actually needs to go.

There’s a lot happening developmentally during bottle feeding. 🍼 From an OT + lactation consultant lens, we watch positioning, pacing, and baby’s fullness cues; not just how many ounces go in.

Responsive bottle feeding allows baby be an active participant. Whether exclusively bottle feeding, combo feeding, or pumping, these principles apply. 🤍

Want your baby to feel included at the table before solids even start? 🍽️

Frozen breast milk (in a mesh feeder, spoon and bowl, or safe teether) lets babies under 6 months explore taste, texture, and meal time! Baby-led participation builds comfort with the sensory experience of “eating” long before their first bite of food.

Small moments like this build big skills later. 🤍

Executive functioning is a skill set that develops over time. These skills help kids plan, remember directions, manage emotions, stay organized and get things done.

So when your child struggles to follow multi-step directions or has a hard time starting a task, it’s a skill still being built. These skills grow through everyday play, like following simple steps in a game or working through a puzzle together. 🌱

Open cup drinking might feel early for 6 months, but this is actually a great window to start practicing! 🥤

At this age, babies are developing the same oral motor skills they’ll need for speech and eating. This includes lip closure, jaw stability, and coordinating a suck-swallow-breath pattern.

Start with a cup (around shot-glass size), 1-2 tablespoons of milk or water, and let your baby take the lead. Spills will happen; every spill is a learning moment!💧

* Baby should still be primarily getting breastmilk or formula and very small amounts of water with a meal at this age.
