Throughout August, Aveanna recognizes Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Awareness Month. This important observance provides an opportunity to increase understanding of SMA, raise awareness about the condition, and honor the individuals and families whose lives are impacted by it.

SMA is a genetic neuromuscular disorder that gradually weakens the muscles responsible for movement and everyday activities. It can affect functions such as walking, eating, and breathing. In the United States, SMA is estimated to affect approximately one in every 15,000 births.

This month, we join communities across the country in recognizing those affected by SMA, celebrating their resilience, and encouraging greater awareness, education, and support for individuals living with the condition.

What makes pediatric home healthcare such a rewarding career?

For Tyler, the answer is simple: meaningful relationships, hands-on clinical experience, and the opportunity to help families live fuller lives at home.

After working across skilled nursing, hospice leadership, and clinical education, Tyler found his true passion in pediatric home care. Today, as a Clinical Supervisor with Aveanna, he's supporting nurses, empowering families, and helping children receive the care they need where they're most comfortable: at home.

Today, Aveanna observes National Parents' Day, a time to celebrate the parents and caregivers who provide unwavering love, support, and advocacy for their children.

For many of the families we serve, parenthood includes navigating medical challenges, coordinating care, and championing their child's health and well-being every day. Their strength, resilience, and dedication play an essential role in helping children thrive.

Aveanna is proud to recognize the parents within our patient families, team members, and communities. We remain committed to partnering with and supporting those who work tirelessly to provide the best possible care and opportunities for their loved ones.

Today is National Disability Independence Day, a time to recognize the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) into law in 1990. This landmark legislation helped advance accessibility, inclusion, and equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities across the country.

Aveanna is proud to honor the lasting impact of the ADA and the positive difference it has made in the lives of millions of Americans by promoting greater independence, dignity, and access to care and support.

Today is International Self-Care Day! This annual observance highlights the importance of prioritizing self-care as part of a healthy lifestyle and overall well-being.

Celebrated on July 24 (7/24), the date serves as a reminder that self-care is something we can practice 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Whether it's maintaining a balanced diet, staying physically active, getting adequate rest, or supporting your mental health, small daily habits can make a meaningful difference in your overall wellness.

Throughout his Aveanna journey, Namari has made incredible progress while receiving care for complex medical needs. When his family prepared for a major life transition after the end of their military service, maintaining continuity of care was a top priority.

Through collaboration and communication, multiple Aveanna teams came together behind the scenes to coordinate a seamless transition of care for Namari. This ensured he would continue receiving the skilled nursing support he depends on without interruption.

"Regardless of your disability, you determine your abilities."

For Aveanna nurse Lakeisha, Disability Pride Month took on a personal meaning in 2018 when she became an amputee. After years as a nurse, Lakeisha witnessed firsthand the determination of her patients as they faced challenges with strength and optimism. She adopted this mindset for herself when she began to navigate her own disability journey.

"As someone who has experienced disability personally, it brings a level of empathy when I care for my patients at Aveanna," said Lakeisha. "My patient, Anya, is tough as nails and doesn't let anything get to her. She inspires me every day to do the same because regardless of your disability, YOU determine your abilities."

This Disability Pride Month, we celebrate individuals like Lakeisha and Anya who remind us that strength, determination, and individuality come in many forms. At Aveanna, we're proud to foster a culture of inclusion and belonging while supporting the unique journeys of our patients and employees. Happy Disability Pride Month!
